Hi
I am also in the same dilemma same budget.

I have an 29 inch CRT Slim TV. I want another one preferably 32" LED/ 42" PLASMA. As the 32" LED will be of same size as my old one, I am more interested in 42" Plasma as I will get a larger TV.

I have the following points to think of.

1. For 42" Plasma, which one? LG or Panasonic? If LG then 42xx560 or 42xx450? If Panasonic then 42X30D or 42U30D.

2. 32" LED, then LG 32LV3730 or Sony 32EX520 (Price 42k to 45K)

32" LCD is smaller than your 29" CRT. You need a 37" LCD for equivalent picture height. Check this page: TV Calculator

If you are not interested in 3D and are watching HD contents, 42U30 is the best option, within the budget. other wise consider samsung 43D490.

If this is your first experience with plasmas, please read about burn ins and reflection in this forum.

For 45k Budget ,buy a sony or Samsung lcd ,much better VFM and piece of mind,if you gonna watch tv 10hrs a day buy a LCD,if only watching movies is your preference then buy plasma with 3 year warranty.Leds are slimmer and have better blacks but are xpensive. For your viewing distance 40inch LCD would be perfect.

Freak ... Just read about Burn Ins ..now i am afraid to purchase an Plasma !!

Every technology has something or other going against it. But AFAIK the latest releases of plasma televisions have overcome the burn in issues. Are you speaking about a particular brand or model?

I thought watching TV and watching movie are one and the same ......

Thanks a lot for replies...
Actually its for family , and the TV is going to run for 24*7 continuously, on a set top box , would watch movies once in 2 months .
So what is the best option for me LCD/PLASMA/LED ?

What channels are going to be watched 24x7 on set top box? Are you going to upgrade to HD STB?

NO .. i dunno HD STB .. I just know tat my local cable operator guy gives a Setop Box at 1200 rs !!! Dont know wether its HD or not!! But 24*7 its going to be Star Plus and Colors , which my mom and sis shall watch ... and i will watch HD movies once in a blue moon!!!

For those channels in SD, you are better off getting a 29" CRT.

Do you really want HD tv NOW to watch HD movies once in a blue moon?

Stick with 29 inch CRT for the time being for your requirements. It is better for the eyes as well as for your pocket. For that once in a while movie, go to a good theatre with the money saved.

Thanks for these suggestions , but my CRT is very old , and i wish to sell it !!!
Btw Star Plus and Colors ain't available in HD version ?

Buddy...if you have decided to change the TV...then please go for it...the right technology never happens...it always keeps on changing...so next year def there will be better ones...the waiting will never end...

So my advise to you my friend would be...go to a store check out the PQ personally and decide. I would recommend ask your family also to tag along too when you do so...since they are the one's who will be using the set most of the time.

If you have any friends owning LCD/Plasma drop in and take a look there also...usually the sets in the store are setup differently than in home use...this will give you a better idea on the PQ.

IMHO plasma would be a good choice for SD (i.e., your current setting cable+STB)...I myself am going for Pana PDP during this diwali.

@Van
