I am itching to get my hands on a Lenco but would want some help and opinion from all of you out there. Need some guidance related to the pricing. What is the fair Indian pricing for the following Lencos with stock arm in the Indian preused market:

L69/L70
L75
L78

If I can get some guidance regarding what a good price would be, I can begin my search, thanks in advance.

Reuben,
Lencos have become costlier during the last couple of years. Recently, Anilva managed managed to get one for 30 K. It is still a TT which comes up for sale from to time. In fact, I was negotiating one for Anilva which slipped out of my hand but the asking price was above 40 K with some special arm. The Lenco Heaven website has really promoted this brand to an iconic level that it is getting dearer by the day. I will keep you posted if I come across any

Reuben,
you can also look out for Goldring G88 or G99. Beautiful Turntables !
If you want regular horizontal idlers see if you can find Elac Miracord or Perpetuum Ebner turntables. Sorry forgot Model nos. Both were well made. Few years back saw a PE turntable in Mumbai. But was in really bad shape.
Regards.

Miracord 10h,40h,50h and 50h2 are desirable beautiful TTs,best changers has ever made. They are considered better than Duals, but very rare to get them in India.Their prices are also high now a days. You can import Lenco from Europe as they are much cheaper there.Indian customs are always tricky,so one must ready to pay hefty amount if anything goes wrong.

Regards,
Sachin

Hand carrying it from the UK or Europe is the cheaper alternative. Or take the risk of importing it yourself. Even with Customs duty, it should still remain cheaper than buying locally. Also, there aren't too much Lencos on the ground here in India.

L70 seems to be the new darling of the Lenco family due to its superior arm. But if you have to build a multilayered plinth for it, you are on your own. There are no published plinth cutout designs (AFAIK). May be you can design one and publish it:)

I don't think there is anything more to add to what is already known about L75.

L78: are you sure you need the auto features?

G88 and G99: look for these models. They're Lenco's top of the line models.

I believe Lakhwant Singh in Delhi has a couple of L75s - one claimed to be NOS NIB. Asking 35K for non NOS NIB. NOS NIB quoted at 45K.

buy it from UK. The prices are anywhere between Ludicrous- Ridiculous here.
With Full customs and shipping (around 160 Eur) it is still very much cheaper to get it from there.
2 years back i bought it from UK and landed cost as 21k !
bid around 160 GBP on this and it should be yours for less..ask him to use only Fedex/DHl etc and it will be in your house in 5 days and they will collect the customs also after clearance...maybe for around 30-35K total..and maybe even less

As everyone knows about Lencos one has to be lucky to find a great deal, so I suggested other models. Here are PE turntables.
Build quality is superb PE 2060
Browse through pics PE 3060
PE-33 is another very well made turntable. Just like Thorens TD-124 a quasi idler drive. Kenwood PC-400 is also good quasi one which was mentioned earlier in forum. These occasionally come on e bay and can be acquired with less money.

Yes indeed, one of these slipped pass me a while ago, still regretting it

Reuben,

There are many Lenco L75s always available on eBay. You should be able to get a good one at under 200 pounds. Shipping will be around 75 pounds. All put together it will work out cheaper, and even if you were to pay customs there is not much impact. Under 30K Indian rupees you should be able to get. The prices quoted by Indian sellers are higher than this.

Another way to buy is have someone in UK buy for you from ebay UK site. They do not ship internationally but ship within UK or for collection in person.

Cheers.

Hey Reuben - So the Lady Lenco it is who is being sort after. So what inspired you for this move, as you are one person who really thinks through his moves :). keen to know...

I've got some leads for you, I will PM them to you.

Cheers...

I have been a great fan of the Technics direct drive. However, I grew up listening to idlers. We are in September now, so as we do every year, its time to take out our Christmas Record collection and shine them up, keep them ready. In our home, right from my childhood, starting the month of November, Christmas music used to be played every year. I have a collection of around 40 christmas records and tonnes of digital material. My father passed away in May 2009 and co-incidently we have played only digital material for christmas since then. This year I decided that its going to be a combination of vinyl (for attended listening) and digital for background listening, as appropriate. My father's idler Garrard passed hands to a fellow forum member in 2010 but as we were through mourning during Christmas 2009, we did not play any christmas music.

Now to the present, a few days ago, I started the process of locating my Christmas collection from my vinyl library and started cleaning some of the records. Came across the famous Jim Reeves Christmas album (12 Songs of Christmas) so decided to dust it and listen to it. Somehow, it did not sound like how we were used to hearing it, since our kiddie days (this album is played atleast a dozen times leading up to Christmas and on Christmas eve itself). Something was missing in the sound, honestly (and I'm surprised that I'm saying this) it sounded a bit life-less. The chrispness and punch was missing the baritone voice of gentleman jim sounded very different from what we've been used to since our childhood. Of course, this was quite a moment of truth and set the grey cells thinking. The root cause was quite obvious. Hence, the change in approach for comparison's sake. Not in a great hurry but I'm going to experiment a bit by placing my Technics TT on 3 concrete blocks which I got made for use as tonearm pods.

So that idler drive sound is driving out directly. :)
[BTW, I agree with you as we recently (day before yesterday) had shoot out between idler (GL78), belt (TD-150 MKII) and DD (SL-1200MKII). All three with there best conditions sounded differently with same cart and same setup.]

No, not really, I still love the DD. I am going to do some listening tonight, using some old original 45rpm records of Jim Reeves (again I've listened to these since I was 5 or so on my father's rig). Shall post some pics later tonight. I also have the old Garrard RC210 idler with me, waiting for its cart to arrive with a friend, from the United States. Now I can't wait to have it sing to try out Jim's voice.

Can you share your impressions on the DD vs BD vs ID?
