Hey Guys, I was planning to get a LCD TV but after my visit to some stores I have decided to go for a 32" LED TV instead.

I narrowed down to two models as of now:
LG 32LE4610 : Rs34,500/-
Samsung 32D5000 : Rs40,500/-

My budget permits me to get either one of these, but wouldnt wanna spend 40k is its not worth. And my viewing distance would vary from 5-10feet. 5feet for gaming though.

PQ wise both looked equals but since the LG model has IPS panel it looked to have less reflections. And maybe better viewing angle.

Features wise Samsung had an extra USB port and comes with a LAN port that can be used for the All Share feature through DLNA. Not sure if this is worth the extra cash though.

Another thing that I was told by the store guy is that Samsung's '100Hz Clear Motion Rate' is actually equivalent to 50Hz true and hence stating that LG's 100Hz is better than that of Samsung's. Not sure how true that is. What do you guys think?

My usage will be console gaming, watching HD movies and then obviously TV. I am unable to make my mind and would wanna know if Samsung deserves that extra 6k?

I have also been reading that Full HD or HD ready doesnt make much of a difference for 32". That has made me think about the Samsung 32D4000 as well. So help me out guys.

Don't go by what the salesman says. Do your own research and decide accordingly. There's nothing more satisfying than to show the salesman that you know more than him..... and then to see his jaw drop. Not that the salesman is to blame.... it's his job after all.
Obviously, not having gone to the store with you I can't comment on which one is better, but perhaps the lower cost and IPS panel has made you more inclined towards LG?? It's a personal call.... you will have x number of fanboys on this site saying go for samsung and an equal number of LG fanboys rooting for LG. So go for what you think is best. If you go for the cheaper LG you can utilise the 6K saved to buy a media player, which you are going to consider at some time in the future (especially if you continue to hang around HFV).
True, Full HD or HD Ready does not make much of a difference in 32". But you are going to play games, no? If you are going to play games via PC, and if your PC has a super graphics card that can handle the latest games at 1080p then definitely go for Full HD. But if you are going to use a PS2/3 or Xbox then HD ready wil be good enough.

I had pretty much decided to go for the 32D5000 but then I went to the Samsung Plaza store, as suggested by a member of another forum, and there it was costing just 38.5...yeyyy!!
But then I also got to see the 27D5000 and the size of it looked to be pretty decent and will fit perfectly in my room. I guess the confusion has now shifted to deciding between the 27" and 32" Samsung screens:D
I wish I had a little more space in my room. To get a full view of the 32" from my current table, I will have to get some carpentering done:mad:

Now left with two doubts:
1. Can I use the All Share feature through my iPod Touch and Macbook pro?
2. How do I find the S-PVA panel, without opening the TV box?

Went to another store today, Samsung Plaza. Suggested by a member on another forum. The 32D5000 was cheaper there but then also saw the 27D5000. Now confused between the 27" and 32" Samsung screens.

Grrrr!!!This is killing me. I was almost set to get the 32" and now the 27" feels to be the right for my current TV cabin.

Have two more doubts:
1. Can I use the All Share feature of the 32" through my iPod Touch and Macbook Pro?
2. How do I check the panel for S-PVA, without opening the TV box seal?

Congratulations on your buy, do post the reviews
Thanks:)

I dont have a review for it but heres my first impression:
1. It looks huge. Considering that I am watching it from 6ft as of now:p

2. The slimness of the screen is surely an advantage. It would be even more amazing if and when I wall mount it

3. I am loving the USB option :ohyeah: HD print movies look so freaking amazing. Dint experiment with lot of formats but so far so good. But it failed to play the audio of the movie '300' that I downloaded, said the audio codec is not supported but I havent checked to see what codec it has.

4. The normal 'cable wala' channels are just not worth watching at all:indifferent14: The DishHD connection will be done by tomorrow and I cant wait to get that amazing clarity for TV channels too:clapping: HD of-course.

5. The option to edit channel names is pretty neat. And I should mention that the TV was able to scan the channels much better than my old CRT Tv, but then wont be need this after I get the STB.

6. I havent tried the All Share feature yet.

7. The user interface is slow and can be kinda annoying at times.

These are the points that came to my mind for now. I am sure its only gonna get better :)

Thanks bro.

As for your decision, help us with your requirement.
What would be your main usage?
What are the major differences that you found between the two?

Heres how I zeroed down to Samsung:
1. Watch HD prints videos from USB, to check quality and USB feature.
2. Compare the color production at similar picture settings.
3. Watch for loss of color due to change in viewing angle.
4. Not sure how the speakers on the LG model are, so do compare that as well.
5. Should definitely check out normal Tv channels and HD channels too, coz that what one would watch the most. Not sure about you though.
6. Do bargain for the best price.

I thing I have learned is, that the one thats buying the TV would be the best judge. I have listed certain things that helped me make my decision. Best of luck with yours:)

EDIT: One more thing. If you not adamant about wanting an LED then I would also recommend you to check out Samsung 6series LCD as well. Samsung 32C630, its a 2010 version but a very impressive. The 200 Clear Motion on it makes everything look amazing. Both color and also motion and can get the same well under 40k.
A big thumbs up for Samsung 6 series TVs :D

hi hari,
thanks for quick reply.

i watch movies downloaded at mostly 720p. wil go for tata sky hd. so wil be watching discovery, national geographics etc. well my fiancee watches ndtv good times a lot!

lg's LV3730 has IPS panel and 3ms response time. i think these are the USP for LG model. LG mentions 3M:1 DCR which samsung mentions as just mega contrast. i believe DCR makes much difference. LG is capable of playing divX hd plus formats from USB directly which means i can play my .mkv collections readily without need for an ext. media player. also store guy told me that LG supports upto 1TB hard disk and samsung doesn't. moreover LG is a smart TV. i can go for a magic motion remote control to browse websites. however LG doesn't mentions about motion rate which samsung mentions as 100hz. not sure if this factor applies for IPS panels or not as IPS panels are already popular for better dynamics. i checked viewing angles of both LG and samsung, LG being IPS panel wins the race! i could not make out any reduction in picture quality. have not yet tested with my own videos. wil take a usb driver with 720p and 1080p mkv and mp4 formats for the testing and let u know the results later. i dont hav much knowledge on how to test color reproduction but asked store keeper to set for movie modes and both looked nice. could not compare side-by-side as the units were far apart in the show room. i am not bothered abt sound quality as i have better speakers at home. both hav good no.s of AV connections so not an issue.

by the way samsung 6 C series TVs are outdated i guess. they are not listed on their website. and yes i am bit adament abt LED TVs ! they really do make difference in PQ and power save.

are you situated in Bangalore?

thanks

How about gaming?

Dont go by numbers and believe in what you see.

LG is capable of playing divX hd plus formats from USB directly which means i can play my .mkv collections readily without need for an ext. media player. also store guy told me that LG supports upto 1TB hard disk and samsung doesn't.
Samsung can play all formats as well, one of the best in business actually and also supports 1TB HDD. Dont just go by what the shop guys say. I have tested my 250GB HDD and works flawlessly.

moreover LG is a smart TV. i can go for a magic motion remote control to browse websites. however LG doesn't mentions about motion rate which samsung mentions as 100hz. not sure if this factor applies for IPS panels or not as IPS panels are already popular for better dynamics.
Motion rate applies to IPS panels too. As I said, dont go by numbers here but compare.

i checked viewing angles of both LG and samsung, LG being IPS panel wins the race! i could not make out any reduction in picture quality. have not yet tested with my own videos. wil take a usb driver with 720p and 1080p mkv and mp4 formats for the testing and let u know the results later. i dont hav much knowledge on how to test color reproduction but asked store keeper to set for movie modes and both looked nice. could not compare side-by-side as the units were far apart in the show room.
Ask the guy to bring one TV close to the other for comparison and he surely will. Then ask him to play same video source on both and then compare the motion and see which one has better looking colors. Do make sure both are set on similar picture settings, by this I mean the picture mode, brightness, contrast, etc.
Also, with both the TVs switched off see which one has more reflections. This can be a deciding factor as well.

i am not bothered abt sound quality as i have better speakers at home. both hav good no.s of AV connections so not an issue.

by the way samsung 6 C series TVs are outdated i guess. they are not listed on their website. and yes i am bit adament abt LED TVs ! they really do make difference in PQ and power save.
Then you just have to worry about the two models that you have finalized then.

Whats the price you are being quoted both the screens?

are you situated in Bangalore?
I am from Hyderabad.

hi hari,

thanks for the replies. i hav donwloaded few 720p and 1080p movie clips and some high def images. wil take them to showroom for demo. i am not into gaming at all !
i hav one more doubt. i read that if the viewing distance is more than 6 ft then our eyes cant distinguish between 720p and 1080p video. see the link
1080p Does Matter – Here’s When (Screen Size vs. Viewing Distance vs. Resolution) | CarltonBale.com

if this is true then i am thinking of buying just a hd ready (720p) LED tv which would cost me around 5k less and invest it for a nice media player. hopefully tata sky hd will work flawlessly with 720p tv. what are your inputs on this.

also in the line one more contender i am adding, ie. Sony KDL-32EX520 (1080p). its bit overpriced but video looked very much vivid in showroom demo.

thanks
