Hi,

I'm getting a 47" LG LCD-LED TV (47LE5400) from the US.

Wanted to know if anyone has used it in India and whether he had to use a ntsc-pal converter as well as a step down transformer?

You will probably need a 110V step down transformer. NTSC-PAL converter is not needed for HDMI.

Hi baijuxavior,

One electrician stated that if its an NTSC TV then you need to get a ntsc-pal converter. When I mentioned that there are cable providers whose digital set top boxes perform this action of conversion(for e.g. Videocon), he mentioned its not possible and I will require a converter.

The manual states Built-In Tuner - ATSC/NTSC/Clear QAM.

Any comments?

Use HDMI out of HD STB and you won't need NTSC-PAL converter. These are needed only when you use AV out or RF out as in cable TV or SD DTH without HDMI.

One of my friends got a 53 nch TV from US and was not able to use it even for a single day due to the NTSC/PAL and 220/110 Volts issue. He is selling it for Rs. 2000/- now to a Kabadi!
I got a 43 inch TV from Dubai and that too gave way and I had to get it repaired. Luckily I had the Bill and International Warranty otherwise the repair would have costed me Rs 22,000/-.
I would recommend buying a TV from India only. Just my 2 cents. :)

Dear friend,
You'll not need step down transformer as this model work on both voltage.
See below this if from LG USA site.
Power Supply (Voltage, Hz) : 100V ~ 240V, 50/60 Hz
LG 47LE5400: 47 inch Full HD 1080p Full HD LED TV (47.0" diagonal) | LG USA

But yes you'll need NTSC to Pal convertor even for HDMI due to 1080i and 1080p difference.
You can get one from here.

Oboy now I'm more confused :)

One of my friends bought a Samsung TV from US and was able to use Videocon HD cable box without a ntsc pal converter. So even I was led to think its possible, even though my TV is a LG one.

Actually Alok, even I read that manual online and thought so, but when i received the original manuals (shipped through cargo), the manual states 120 V..though it doesnt state clearly the power output..says 20W !!! can it be that low?

My TV is packed in box from the cargo so havent opened it.

So my question still remain open - 1. Will it really require ntsc pal converter?

2. how much is the power output?

I'm planning to pair this with a PS3 (bought from US). The step down planned for sustaining both devices is 500 W step down transformer for which I've been given a qoute of 3500 INR. Is this ok?

I would suggest dont rush for ntsc converter right now but can get step down converter. After connecting to HD DTH you will come to know if NTSC converter is really needed or not. dont spend faltoo on assuming something.

btw how much it costed in INR?

As far as I know, what is NTSC or PAL got to do with HDMI ? It's a whole different thing right? TV has no tuner processing involved in it.. So I guess you shouldnt worry anything about NTSC or PAL..

Thanks folks - I'll go ahead without ntsc-pal converter for now...and check and see what happens...

viper08 - I bought it from Us, for around 1000$ a year+ back...
