After long research whether to go for media player or blu ray player and which one to go for etc., I finally decided and got delivered LG BP440 blu ray player through online.

I am yet to play a blu ray disc to test its basic function (can't test 3d as i don't have a 3D tv), I tested with few audio/dvd/ usb movies. It's OK and did what it should do. I also did a firmware update and it did in few minutes.

Though the purchase was made online (snapdeal), the packing were all intact and i didn't find any scratches or damage anywhere. It came with HDMI cable as well :yahoo:

Now the cons:

1) It doesn't move to one folder to another automatically nor I can change the folder through remote (is it the same with other blu-ray players, especially pioneer's). I can do both only by switching my TV on.

2) The subtitles size cannot be increased or decreased. I also do not like the font it displays. Compared to this, I like the font which my LG LED TV displays.

3) I played one FLAC file. It was playing, but it was playing with a different tune. I mean, the sound output is different from what I could hear from my PC. I have to check with some other FLAC file incase if this FLAC was in different bitrate than what this player could support.

4) No WIFI. can't complain in this price range. But you can do online stuff by connecting the network cable.

I will be doing more testing in coming days. So far i am still satisfied as i got it for around Rs.5000 :indifferent14:

Hi Pradhan,
The offer was from snapdeal. I could have ordered it blindly if it was from flipkart, with snapdeal I was bit skeptical & kept my fingers crossed. But the package came intact and I did not find any issues with the item.

Also I could see that the seller had very few items on this price range. next day I saw there was a different seller with price increased to Rs.1000 more.

I have mentioned few issues in my previous post, like it does not move to next folder automatically, no wifi etc., but it's nothing to do with the item as it's how it is been built.

good, that the seller had very few items on this price range. next day I saw there was a different seller with price increased to Rs.1000 more.thanks

Guys,

Do you know what are the differences between this model and lg bp420....I am planning to buy a budget 3d Blu Ray player and these 2 model seems to be ok....but I am not sure what are the differences between these 2 models.

Hi armit

As far as I know, the BP420 has Component video out, 2.0 channel audio out, HDMI & Ethernet jack, whereas BP440 has HDMI, Ethernet jack & Digital audio out only.

However BP440 is the latest model. BP440 also has a private sound mode wherein you can send sound directly from your Blu-ray player to your smartphone or tablet via Wi-Fi and enjoy with regular headphones. (note: the blu ray player is not a wi-fi and it should be connected to internet via router network cable)

There may be few more differences, which is not so clear from their website. You may download the manual of both models from lg website to see if there are any other major difference apart from the above.

hope this helps.

Yes please let us know if you could play all major type of files and also if you could register the product successfully on lg site?

please give me a day's time. I will check and revert. As far as I remember, i received a bill and also warranty card from LG which was part of the packing. However I will check it again.

With regard to other question, Yes I was able to play most of the movie formats that I was having already with me. Only issue that I had was the lack of ability to change the font size and other minor issues i have initially shared here.

if you are looking for a budget player to just to play BD's, CD's, DVD's hooked to your HT, this should work fine. For better configuration you may look for pioneer 160 or 170 if your budget allows. also note LG is not a wifi, you need to hook up cable to connect to Internet.

Thanks to Murlidhar , I have purchase bp 440 too...working perfectly ok...only issue is remote is too small , and no hdmi control for putting palyer on and off automatically along with home theater......however at around 5k its worth ...i have register it online on Lg site...I have also received bill and warranty card

Hi Guys, I just got a BP440 free with my LG 42LB6500 3D TV as part of the Diwali Pack!! It's quite a nice little player with just about everything you need, except maybe, built in Wifi, but that doesn't matter since the TV has Wifi. It's played nicely in the couple of days that i've had it, but there's one bother - I have a lot of DVDs and some are not region free while some are of other regions, and i've been trying to find a hack or code to make it DVD region free but can't seen to find any. It was relatively simple to hack the other dvd players that i've had - Phillips, Samsung etc. but this one's got me stumped..
Anybody has any ideas about this particular model and hot to make it region free for DVDs?
Thanks :)
