I had actually put up this question on an ongoing thread but got no answers so opened a new one to get some help.

Finally the LG OLED B6 is here and installed. The pics attached show Netflix through inbuilt app. To begin with, there are two issues I could not resolve.

1) My CA CXR200 is connected through HDMI 2 (ARC) while the set-top box is thru HDMI 1. Now the thing is, I want to connect everything else, apart from the Tata Sky set top box through the AVR. So for that I connected my MacBook Pro to HDMI, port 3 of the AVR, but I do not get the reproduction on the TV. When I press HDMI 3 on my AVR it moves out from the TV connect of the AVR to a dark blank screen. Am I missing something here? I did connect, however, MacBook directly to the TV thru HDMI 3, and played Netflix through the browser but the sound out through the AVR was PCM and not Dolby. Anything I missed here too?

2) How do I get Netflix and Amazon Prime Video, US on the B6? I have entered Getflix provided DNS servers but Netflix and Amazon both, don't respond. Is there a way around?

Bumping the thread as I need help here desperately. Basically, I only get sound out from my AVR through ARC or optical when devices like MacBook Pro/Windows 8.1 are connected directly through the HDMI port of the TV. When these devices are connected through AVR neither do I get sound nor picture.

This could be a simple HDMI Handshake issue.. Try cold boot of the Mac/PC with HDMI attached to AVR (AVR & TV should already be switched on )

Do you mean a hard reboot?

I deeply suspect that there might be issues with the HDMI wires I am using. There is audio drop at constant intervals with set-top box as well as the MacBook Pro.

I am using this to connect B6 ARC to CXR200 ARC: DAC HDMI 2.0 4K Silver Plated Copper

Use this to connect Tata Sky set-top box to TV and MacBook Pro to AVR: Amazon.in: Buy AmazonBasics High-Speed HDMI Cable 2-Pack - 6.5 Feet (2 Meters) Supports Ethernet, 3D, 4K and Audio Return Online at Low Prices in India | AmazonBasics Reviews & Ratings

Think I might need to change wires wholesale.

*cries* wish I could allow myself to spend on oled :P

Right now I am too harassed to urge you to buy one...lol!

I just mean switch on your PC/Mac , with the AVR & TV already switched on.

That worked. Now I get video as well as specified audio even connected through AVR. Thank you much for the help.

I think I'll change cables to Monoprice Premium and Audioquest Pearl and see if the audio dropouts disappear.

Thanks again.

Just before you try changing the cables, try connecting everything to the receiver and running just a single output hdmi to the TV. See if you still face issues. Do remember to switch on HDMI Stand By pass through on the receiver, if it supports.

It does support HDMI Standby Pass Through. What does it do?

The only reason I do not connect set-top box to the AVR is because I have read here somewhere that due to constant current flow from the set-top box, the HDMI board of the AVR gets damaged. Don't know how true that is, but just taking a precaution.

^^ Thats a good point..

I had recently connected my STB to AVR directly - should unplug that and go back to the previous status with STB-->LED-->ARC-->AVR

Hdmi stand by pass through passes on the signal from source to TV when the receiver is in stand by mode. Very useful when you don't want to switch on the home theatre, for channels such as kids pogo, etc.

This what 'Receiver' is designed to do. There is absolutely no harm in connecting all your sources to the receiver and then running just one output to TV. Many on the forum including me have been running the setup like this and I have had no issues at all for over a year now.

a big concern with that is if bad luck & lightning strikes it is possible that one can lose hdmi ports (and more) on all interconnected devices. i lost all hdmi ports on my tv and the TS stb last year like this and i've since learnt that this is a ever present danger with hdmi

Nature will always win, no matter what. It can burn or wash away ones entire house too if it wishes so, leave alone a couple of hdmi ports, boards or devices. We on our part can only connect the devices in a way they were designed to be and pray for the best picture and sound quality. [emoji3]

This is useful only when stand by pass through is working. In mycase, I have connected all devices to TV ( except my HTPC ) and run a sinlge cable to by AVR so i switch on the AVR only when it is necessary

Yeh it's useful when all sources are connected to the receiver.

Well, I have connected everything now to AVR. There's only one connection through HDMI ARC port of the TV and CXR200. I anyway keep my devices on standby, as paranoid about Mumbai humidity, so hopefully this power leak through STB won't have that much effect. Thats just a theory.

But my two bit on the TV. Its just awesome for movies. The depth in colours is something to behold. I am sure the prices will come down further after CES. At least the B6 should come within reach for most. I am so relieved to not have to watch a VU. I hope I never have to.

Excellent. That's the right way to do it. Does your receiver have the option to change sources while in stand by? The newer models have that and I miss that in my current Marantz.

There is hardly any heat when on stand by mode, so good practice to switch on the devices for 30 mins at the minimum to dry up the moisture. It had created havoc with our TV in Visakhapatnam where humidity levels reach 90% during summer.

No clue. Don't know if that needs to be selected in the settings. As far as I can tell, on standby, I have only seen the pass through option. Anyway, CXR200 is a no frills AVR, where most has been spent on giving out good sound.

Yes checked the specs, it does not have it. But that is a good receiver never the less.

This is a clean setup that i wanted to implement.
Tata Sky > Denon x1300 > OLED B6 ARC
I am, however, facing issues with the HDMI passthrough. I have a blank screen when the x1300 is on standby and TS and TV powered on.

The image pops up on the screen after i switch on the AVR. If i then switch off the AVR, the screen goes blank for a brief moment before the passthrough takes effect and the TS STB image continues. How do i get the passthrough to work without having to switch on the AVR?

Does this setup give you DD surround? I only get stereo out from the ARC.

1) STB> AVR > TV
2) STB> TV > AVR

Shouldn't i protect the more expensive piece of equipment (the OLED) using the 1st setup?

If all interconnected devices are at risk, does setup 1 or 2 really matter?
