In another effort to improve my music sources..i am considering of a CD player, preferably with a tuner. my set up as of now goes like this:

- Wharf dia 10.5
- marantz PM6003
- lenovo thinkpad T410 (considering a DAC or squeezebox for it already)
- blu ray player (which has to be replaced by the cd player in question)

my budget would be limited..max upto 25k..
i am afraid that there even exists a cd player with tuner as i have already done some research..but then this is the reason why am i here to look out for your suggestions people..

please throw some light guys..

hi,

Go for a CD player new one marantz pm 6003. Tuner, you can lay your hand in a preowned stuff for around 2 k plus, depending upon the brand.

yeahh..i was thinkin abt the same..cd6003 wud go well with pm6003..

but i thought there might be a few brands with cd player and tuner both..im checkin the cd6003 group buy thread regularly..if i dont find cdp+tuner combo, will go with that option..

Buswal, can you further help me with finding used tuners in a similar range as you said??..

For tuners, NAD 402 or 412 are a great bet...NAD 402 was voted Tuner of the year in 1996 I guess, by What-HiFi. i personally own the 402 and it is by far, the best tuner i've ever heard (from both a reception and a sound reproduction). For CD players, suggest you avoid brands like Sony and Teac...marantz is the best bet if not NAD. I suggest you go for Marantz. If you cant shell out the 20K+ for the world famous CD6003, laying your hands on a used CD63 or CD63 SE (or even better CD63 SE KI) wont be a bad idea. The best part about the CD63 series is that its entire drive (and laser) are easily available as replacements (made by Philips).

thanks reubensm

I think i am gonna go for CD player and tuner separately..

CD player i think i will go for a new one..please lemme know if you come across any used tuner..and if ur from Delhi please lemme know any such market of used tuner..
i guess there would be a few markets where i can get good used tuners in Delhi..may be daryaganj, nayi sadak..etc may have something..what do you think Delhi people..

NAD tuners are hard to find...simply as not too many have or prefer stand-alone tuners. Also, all Home Theatre receivers come with inbuilt tuners so people generally tend to stay away. Japanese Tuners like Pioneer, Sony and Technics can be found here and there in the price range of 2-3k. However, these are mass-produced components and are not of audiophile quality. A NAD tuner is of audiophile quality and if found, would come in the price range of 5-6k.

Reviving an old thread, because the need has revived!

A couple of NAD tuners (402 and 412) are on auction on ebay u.k. But these are coming without a remote! So, is it possible to buy a remote separately that would be compatible with the NAD tuners?

Please help..
