Have narrowed down on LG 42LW6500 and Samsung UA40D6600WR

But LG seem to have HMDI 1.3 (deep color) whereas Samsung has HDMI 1.4 which I feel is more future proof!

Suggestions appreciated!

Thanks

HDMI 1.4 is primarily to cater the higher bandwidth required by active 3D. It also has Audio Return Channel (ARC). It will appear safer to be "future ready". On the other hand HDMI upgrades/updates have been changing very frequently.

I can't place this intuition but I have a feeling that active 3D may not last long and passive 3D will take over. Now don't flame me. I can't help having intuitions, can I?

I have LGLW6500 and am very happy with it. You can read more about it in my thread

I was always a Samsung fan but watching 3D movie with Active shutter glasses is a pain. So many issues. Glasses are too heavy and give headache. Crosstalk issues, IR sync issues, charge the glasses before watching... Overall your 3D experience will be bad. I would recommend LW6500.

The 2D video quality is really good in this TV. Obviously if the settings are on standard, it will be too bright since its LED but I prefer the Expert settings and believe me, the picture quality is good with natural colors.

From where you got this info that LW6500 has HDMI 1.3???? HDMI1.4a has 3 main features which HDMI 1.3 doesn't have. ARC, Ethernet and 3D. Bandwidth is same for both (10.2Gb/s).

My TV supports ARC and have tested it. It is even written on the HDMI port. If it doesn't have HDMI1.4a then this TV can never support Frame Sequential 3D format and again I have tested it.. I have connected the TV with my HTPC also and TMT5 detects it has HDMI1.4a 3D TV.

Don't get confused that it doesn't have HDMI1.4a :)

Oh, so here you got confused. Deep Color is a standard which is supported by HDMI 1.3 and above. Read more about it here Color depth - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

ARC is something which is only supported by HDMI1.4a and I have tested it by myself. Next time when you go to demo this TV, just check the side panel you will see ARC written above HDMI port.

Best price I have got for UA40D6600WR is 84k which can be brought down to 82k or so if some of us get a better pricing through special approval from Samsung.

Shipping to Chennai will cost around Rs.500.
