Any Body any idea were i can find old cheap lp records as i am new to lp records my only collection is my new pink floyds walls album

I know in India, Kolkata is the place to be for LP hunting. But not sure where in Dubai. May be you can try ebay or other similar online sellers. But just to remind, if you come down to India, nothing beats the streets of Kolkata for record hunting.

Regards,
Saket.

Exactly what Sourav said. Lenin Sarani in particular has a lot of street side record vendors where you can get LPs for as low as Rs. 50-60, of course depending on the music & condition of the LP. Good Old Hindi lps can also cost anything around 150-300 rupees.
Most english LPs sold there as actually in Mint condition as Souravin said. Last time I was in Kolkata, I got copies of Boney M albums...The records were in such a condition...I doubt if they were even played once!! Of course, the covers were not in the same league but the LPs were as good as new. I have got some great deals from Kolkata.
Also, you can order online from new gramophone house or New Gramophone House - Vinyl Records Gramophone Record Players Turntables Stylus Cartradges.
they ship anywhere in the world but prices are little higher. YOu can try their section of 'discounted lps' which are sold cheaper than the rest. YOu can also talk to the guy Anuj from NGH- 09810955557. He owns this store & practically has everything in Hindi!

Cheers!

LP sales keep coming up in the For Sale section. Keep track of them and you might find some very good deals. I too have some folk and country LPs that I might be selling sometime soon.
However shipping to Dubai will not be an option for most of the members.

If you an pickup from Mumbai I have a load of Hindi records and some English One.

AND A MEGA LOTOF 110 WESTERN CLASSICAL - VINTAGE RECORDS IN NEAR MINT CONDITION ( BUT IT IS EXPENSIVE)

see if interested

LPs on eBay are expensive.

Besides high price, they are not Ex or Mint as quoted by most of the sellers. I have bought plenty of these EX/VG+ records with totally damaged grooves, Some are only played only once or twice but with heavily worn out stylus so damage is obvious. Some sellers have posted a sample clip from record and one can hear several click/pops and even skipping from so called Ex condition records.

Talked to Jeetender Bhai from Mumbai yesterday but he was asking Rs 3000 for EX /NM Pink Floyd LPs. He said, the one available on rhythmhouse for around Rs 2000 is Digital (?) and people are paying more for original. Does anybody has both copies ? if yes, please throw some light on sound quality. I have heard from some FMs that Michael Jackson Thriller vinyl reissue is the best sounding version till date but most of the time i have disappointed with the reissues.
Thanks.

Could you please PM the list of English titles you have. Are they import or domestic pressing ? Also interested in Hindi titles with Good music.

thanks

Before buying from Anuj, that is New Gramophone House, always confirm if record has any kind of warpage. Ask for refund or replacement guarantee before buying anything. Most of the titles available in multiple quantity, specially EPs, have little to heavy warpage. Nazia Hassan, Star, Karz etc are NM but due to heavy warpage, they are not playable. In classical Lps, all Rangmala series lps are heavily warped.

i buy from ebay.uk

In my opinion Jeetender and all these other dealers are huge scamsters and it's ridiculous they ask for Rs 2k-3k for classic rock albums that you can find for under $5 pretty much anywhere in the world. Even with $15 dollars for shipping, it works out cheaper than these guys. Not to mention the quality of their product is terrible at best, unless you get really lucky. Most are in the Fair - Good zone. Also the way some of these guys store their LPs would give any decent record collector some serious nightmares. Mould, fungus and god knows what else! When I go digging at these guy's places it's best to take a pair of rubber gloves and cloth to cover the face and mouth!

If you want to pick up cheap records in good condition, yes you may get lucky at some of these dealers but it's getting rarer now as they've all caught onto the vinyl craze and are going to milk it for as long as they can. But, your best bet is to try to go to the source directly. Put up want ads in your communities, clubs, societies, etc., coz there are always people looking to get rid of their old "junk". I've found some incredible gems in this method. And it's a win win for everyone. Those families who would otherwise throw these items out, or get a pittance for it, are paid very well for the records and YOU get the best possible deal.

LPs on eBay are expensive.

used lp's not so expensive...at best, at par or cheaper than what's been sold on forum here. and the best part...90% of them are made in great Britain or germany. i got really good copies of Floyd's Meddle and Dark side (first press) for INR 850 each and then george Michael, police, doors and such..

i agree with tek on his assessment, i literally got robbed by one such "famous" dealer of LP's in kolkata...sold me scrap, loaded with fungus and made in India paper thin LP's for premium price. with that im convinced, better get your stuff from countries who have a tradition of keeping their stuff in good nick. also gives some satisfaction to know it was pressed in germany or a Britain or holland

And probably I know this 'Famous' dealer!! Even once I was ripped off by him too! Never went again to him.

There are many street vendors which offer better prices and better quality LPs too.

I have sold similar near mint, imported LPs here on the forum for about 300-450 INR.
