Hi all, dont know on which heading to post, so mods please move the post to to appropriate heading if deemed fit.

This is to inform you all that yesterday I happened to see a shop open up for cleaning/stock taking after 24 years. There was some litigation going on through all these years and after disposal of the legal case, the owner opened up his shop.

There I found about 100-120 records, neatly stacked in the shelves albeit covered with dust in their original covers ... mint. On asking the price, I was quoted rs 100 per record, will go again on Wednesday to catalog the LPs. if anybody is interested please let me know. Mostly Hindi film music with a smattering of some English LPs.

Purchased a brand new SONODYNE SX600 amplifier from him for rs 1500.00.

Regards,

Lifewater.

That's great price for a real mint condition record. As stated by you, I feel that these records would have never spun as they are brand new tucked in the closed shop. Just look for warps and of course a general visual check up before picking up a lot. Do let us know the available titles too, in case anyone (including me) gets interested!

Regards,
Saket

Hi Saket, already checked for warps in a few records no such issue. However will check the entire lot before picking it up.

me in for the english stuff, especially older country music records !

Hey greenhorn, will catalog the titles and post. Dont know what english albums are there but saw one title SHAFT IN AFRICA.

Thank you for posting this.I am very much interested, please let me know when you get hold of catalog.

Regatrds,
Sachin

Would have been nice to see how the shop looked with all the old stuff loaded. For that price it would be clever for someone to just sweep in and buy all 120 titles :)

Felt as if I went back in a time machine. No fluorescent tube lights or CFLs inside the shop, remember those incandescent spot tights with aluminum reflectors and also some coloured bulbs. Whole place was dusty and with a musty smell everything covered with a minimum 2" of dust. Sun-mica topped counters and the works. Saw some old transistor radios, will check again when the owner opens for cleaning on Wednesday. Lucky I happen to know the owner.

+1, me too interested in whole lot.

Mishra ji, I will pick up the whole lot, but at the price it is being sold, I am passing on most to the fellow HFVians so al least some of us newbee and perpetually broke guys like me can sample vinly.

Thank you for this post. I'm interested in any of the R.D.Burman LPs.

Sure watch out for the catalogue.

good old stuff...nostalgia!!

let us know what you find out there (amps, radios, etc)

if possible, some pics of the place too, please

I'm keen on any rock/heavy metal/ghazals//film scores by Pankaj Udhas/Jagjith singh

Since its shop retail stock, you're not likely to find too many rock/heavy metal LPs. If I recall correctly, AC/DC's Black in Black was released in India, also Deep Purple, Zeppelin and Floyd titles. Nothing much other than that because the Indian public in those days was basically into Boney M and Abba, to add to Jim Reeves and orchestra LPs. Also there were royalty issues with rock artists of those times and our Indian record companies had to keep prices within the Rs.50 to 60 mark and hence let a lot of these pass.

When my interest in vinyl rekindled, I remember talking to my dad about releases by "The Gramaphone Company of India Ltd" from the 1970s and very early 1980s. He himself remembered letting Pink Floyd's "The Wall" pass because my mom preferred to buy a Skeeter Davis LP.

Best source for metal LPs is (1) Flipkart for new stuff and (2) ebay.com for used stuff. I am currently listening to JK_Chaos' Kill em' All and Blizzard of Ozz LPs and they are amazing, both new purchases. But another of his LPs, an old Atlantic pressing of Highway to Hell sounds even hetter.

Hi Reuben, I think you are mistaken. I myself have an Indian Pressing of Iron Maiden's self titled album. For further proof have a look at this here -0 Iron Maiden Killers Mega RARE Indian EMI Official Release | eBay. I also remember sourcing a KISS Double LP many years ago from a Raddiwalla, but I cant be sure if it was an Indian Pressing.
