Use Automotive Synthetic Motor Oil 10W-30W

Shell Alvania No. 2
Use any White Lithium Based Grease
Shell Alvania #2 is a general purpose lithium soap grease with a
useful temperature range of -40 F to +280 F. EP2 (LF) grade

Isoflex PDP 40
Use Automotive Synthetic Motor Oil 10W-30W
Isoflex is a silicone based lubricant and will have been sleected for its
non-conductive capacity.

Considering all the other commonly available motor engine oils have been used/tried/tested, it only made it an easier comparison to try out watch oil which maintains its fluid viscosity at room temperature, which right now in Udaipur is at 11 degrees C. With the really small moving/turning watch parts, the lubricating agent needs to be able to oil as well as not interfere with the movement- the same reasoning can be applied to turntables to achieve the desired results.

Norton, please dont use improper oils in your classic legendary players, instead use the famous and exact oil: 'Special Turntable Spindle Oil' - made by Van Den Hul, Nederland. It is used in High end Players. For 25 ml small bottle, it is priced approximately US$35/. But it will come to many many years of usage. I am using his 'The Solution' for interconnect and speaker cable connectors and sockets for many years. Also using his 'TLF' oil to lubricate fan bearings and other moving parts. Very little is enough. You can get from ebay or amazon. So please dont think for other oils. Thank you.
Regards.

Gents - So I understand that Watch Oil would be apt for TurnTable Lubrication. Need to lube my 1200.

Can you please list down the brands of Watch Oil that can be procured locally please?

For Technics, it has been pointed out at various places that the original oil
is Anderol 465 ISO Grade 68

And it appears the real thing is available locally too.

Pretty funny to come to a new forum and see that one of my posts on another forum was used as a reference. And yes, Anderol 465 is what you should use with Technics TTs.

Found a plastic safe lubricant recommended on AK for TTs.
Description from an ebay listing -

Dow Corning Molykote EM-30L , SYNTHETIC POLYALPHAOLEFIN GREASE

DESCRIPTION:
Molykote EM-30L Grease is a synthetic hydrocarbon oil / lithium soap light consistency grease containing specially formulated solid lubricants. It has excellent compatibility with plastics such as polycarbonates, polyamides, polyacetals, and polybutylene terephthalates (PBT). It is a high-performance white synthetic grease with solid lubricants for extreme pressure, for use with plastic/plastic, plastic/metal, plastic/rubber and rubber/metal combinations involving slow and medium-fast movements and medium to heavy loads. May also be used for some metal/metal lubrication in electromechanical applications such as automotive actuators.

COMPOSITION:
Polyalphaolefine Synthetic Hydrocarbon; Lithium soap; PTFE (Teflon or equivalent) and other solid lubricants.

APPLICATIONS:
Suitable for lubrication points with medium to heavy loads and low to medium speeds.
- Switches: Lubrication of plastics and electrical contact.
- Actuators: Lubrication at wide temperature and various materials.
- Micro Motors: Lubrication at wide temperature and various materials.

FEATURES:
- Contains no lead or nickel.
- High load-carrying capacity.
- Suitable for long-term lubrication by virtue of low oil evaporation and low tendency towards oxidation.
- Low friction coefficient.
- Compatible with most plastics and elastomers.
- Can be used for plastic-plastic contact, metal-metal contact and plastic-metal contact long service life.
- Low seepage, so it can be used in places where cleanliness is required.
- Does not contain silicone therby preventing problems with contact point failures.

SPECIFICATIONS:
COLOR: White
NLGI Class: NLGI 1
TEMPERATURE RANGE: From -49F to 302F (-45C to +150C)
WORKED PENETRATION: 310-340 mm/10
BASE OIL VISCOSITY @ 40C: 90 mm2/s

SOLVES THESE LUBRICATION PROBLEMS:
Plastic Gear Wheels in Enclosed Gears:
- Running-in damage, stick-slip, scuffing, seizure.
- High wear and short life owing to high temperatures or heavy loads. Swelling, range shrinking, stress cracks, change in strength characteristics due to inadequate lubricant.

Seals and Packings:
- Shrinkage, swelling and stress cracking due to lubricant incompatibility.

Sliding Contact Bearings Made of Plastic:
- Running-in damage, stick-slip, scuffing, seizure.
- High wear, stiff operation, stress cracks, swelling, shrinking, effect on hardness due to inadequate lubricant, short life owing to high temperatures or high loads.

Linear Sliding Guides:
- Scuffing, scoring, high wear, short life due to high load.

Please check out this document: www.iocl.com/downloads/ilf/SyntheticCompressorOil.doc

Indian Oil seems to have multiple types of compressor oils - PAG based, PAO based, diester based, polyol ester based, etc of different grades. Lenco owners you can go look for the Servosynco E68 oil from IOC outlets/pumps. Just don't ask me what is PAG, PAO, etc :)

This site seems to suggest ISO 68 = SAE 30, which is one of the grades recommended by Sachin.

And this site has a chart of various grades of compressor oils from a large number of manufacturers from around the world (including IndianOil). So if you know a shop that sells oils from different vendors, you can at least ask a more educated "do you have XYZ oil made by ABC vendor" question than generically asking for SAE 32 or 30 compressor oil.

From the above, it looks like the oil recommended for Lencos and Technics TTs are of the same grade. The oil for Lencos is specifically compressor oil. It is not so clear if Technics oils are also compressor oils. Any thoughts?

OT: One of the uses of the oil mentioned in quad's second link is:

office, computing, and accounting equipment

 this oil must be very good indeed.

I re-checked Sachin's post. The oil is ISO 32. Not ISO 68 as in mentioned in my post above.

I called up a few oil dealers. Compressor oils seem to be available only in wholesale quantities of 20 and 220 litres. No 1 litre retail packs. I visited one shop that sells various types of oils. He had a 1 litre can from Elgi. Elgi seems to be a brand of Elf. The manufacturer is Total Oil India Pvt Ltd. The can mentions clearly "Genuine Reciprocating Air Compressor Oil", whatever that means. The catch is there is no mention of grade, and it says it based on "specially formulated mineral lubricating oil..." (meaning it is not synthetic?). I don't know if these two facts are deal breakers.

I will try one more oil shop today. If I can't find anything else, I will go with the Elgi.

This is what I got:
