Lyrics of your favorite song

@ajay124,

Phil Ochs was a great songwriter, there are several cover versions of the song Changes sung by different singers.

Gordon Lightfoot's cover version of the song is the best in my opinion.

Rajiv

@Rajeev
On Gordon Lightfoot's You Tube site for 'Changes' (full of Lightfoot fans!) I had the audacity to state that Gordon had reduced Phil's timeless classic into a 'mere' pop song.Outrage and horror greeted my comments and I received a couple of mails from die hard Gord fans 'critically' trying to prove that GORD IS GREAT! However I will stick to my opinion that Phil Ochs is senstive, brave and the BEST singer songwriter of the 20th century.Compared to Phil I find my college time heroes Dylan,Lennon,Young,Hendrix,Clapton,Marley,Morrison,Winwood,Jagger,Page etc. to be only mildly interesting. As for Gord, tried listening to his songs after the YouTube comments and found his music to be indistinguishable from many other singers out there busy exercising their guitars and their vocal chops. However my opinion is as important as yours or anybody elses out there. All I can say in defense of my opinion is that I have been listening to rock music for 35 years.Phil Ochs makes me want to weep at the heartbreaking beauty of his words and his voice. All other rock singers leave me feeling:indifferent14:
*But I'm happy that you are aware of Phil Ochs and 'Changes'.

Diary of Madman lyrics by Ozzy:

Screaming at the window
Watch me die another day
Hopeless situation endless price I have to pay

Sanity now it's beyond me there's no choice

Diary of a madman
Walk the line again today
Entries of confusion
Dear diary I'm here to stay

Manic depression befriends me
Hear his voice
Sanity now it's beyond me
There's no choice

A sickened mind and spirit
The mirror tells me lies
Could I mistake myself for someone
Who lives behind my eyes
Will he escape my soul
Or will he live in me
Is he tryin' to get out or tryin' to enter me

Voices in the darkness
Scream away my mental health
Can I ask a question
To help me save me from myself

Enemies fill up the pages
Are they me
Monday till Sunday in stages
Set me free

Thanks Rajeev!
But why these crazy prices on Amazon for Ochs memorabilia? He did not sell so well in his time. But like all the greats Van Gogh,Kafka etc.Phil seems to be a 'late' bloomer.Well God bless his soul!

everything changes,it all stays the same,
everyone guilty,no one to blame,
every way out, brings you back to the start,
everyone dies, to break somebody's heart.

The Ultimate Nostalgia Number
Used to always wonder how such poignant lyrics could have been written by the usual set of songwriters.Well.......
According to Wikipedia
"Those Were the Days" is a song credited to Gene Raskin, who put English lyrics to the Russian song "Dorogoi dlinnoyu" ("??????? ???????", lit. "By the long road"), written by Boris Fomin (19001948) with words by the poet Konstantin Podrevskii.
The version I grew up and LOVE is by Mary Hopkins.

THOSE WERE THE DAYS

Once upon a time there was a tavern
Where we used to raise a glass or two
Remember how we laughed away the hours
And dreamed of all the great things we would do

Those were the days my friend
We thought they'd never end
We'd sing and dance forever and a day
We'd live the life we choose
We'd fight and never lose
For we were young and sure to have our way.
La la la la...
Those were the days, oh yes those were the days

Then the busy years went rushing by us
We lost our starry notions on the way
If by chance I'd see you in the tavern
We'd smile at one another and we'd say

Those were the days my friend
We thought they'd never end
We'd sing and dance forever and a day
We'd live the life we choose
We'd fight and never lose
For we were young and sure to have our way.
La la la la...
Those were the days, oh yes those were the days

Just tonight I stood before the tavern
Nothing seemed the way it used to be
In the glass I saw a strange reflection
Was that lonely woman really me

Those were the days my friend
We thought they'd never end
We'd sing and dance forever and a day
We'd live the life we choose
We'd fight and never lose
For we were young and sure to have our way.
La la la la...
Those were the days, oh yes those were the days

Through the door there came familiar laughter
I saw your face and heard you call my name
Oh my friend we're older but no wiser
For in our hearts the dreams are still the same

Those were the days my friend
We thought they'd never end
We'd sing and dance forever and a day
We'd live the life we choose
We'd fight and never lose
For we were young and sure to have our way.
La la la la...
Those were the days, oh yes, those were the days

AAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!WANT TO BE YOUNG AGAIN!!!!!!!

@dinyaar
Remember reading on some forum that you had BP6/3B SST earlier around 2006.How long did you keep it?And why did you sell it?Is your Accuphase substantially better than the Bryston? In what way?

wonderful lyrics ajay. One other song which brings in a similar kinda nostalgic feeling is a song called 'In my life' from The Beatles.

Yesterday, there was so many things
I was never told
Now that I'm startin' to learn
I feel I'm growing old

'Cause yesterday's got nothin' for me
Old pictures that I'll always see
Time just fades the pages
In my book of memories
Prayers in my pocket
And no hand in destiny
I'll keep on movin' along
With no time to plant my feet

'Cause yesterday's got nothin' for me
Old pictures that I'll always see
Some things could be better
If we'd all just let them be

Yesterday's got nothin' for me
Yesterday's got nothin' for me
Got nothin' for me

Yesterday, there was so many things
I was never shown
Suddenly this time I found
I'm on the streets and I'm all alone

Yesterday's got nothin' for me
Old pictures that I'll always see
I ain't got time to reminisce old novelties

(Arkeen / James / Billy / Rose)

these lyrics just fit so perfectly with my life.....

Another dose of Nostalgia! In school our new music teacher taught us to sing 'The Sounds of Silence' for the school annual function.Thank you teacher for introducing me to S&G at the ripe old age of 12.
While many iconic rock groups have fallen by the wayside I have never ever got tired of listening to Simon & Garfunkel. My 2 CD Best of S&G was NOT part of the cd's I sold recently. For well over 3 decades I have been listening with immense pleasure to Mrs.Robinson/The Boxer/Scarboriugh Fair/I Am A Rock/Bridge over Troubled Waters/Homeward Bound and my favorite S&G For Emily,Whenever I May Find Her....Thank You Paul Simon and Art Garfunkel.I might have spent 700-800 bucks on your cd's and tapes. But the joy I have received from them is worth millions.

THE SOUNDS OF SILENCE
SIMON & GARFUNKEL

Hello darkness, my old friend
I've come to talk with you again
Because a vision softly creeping
Left its seeds while I was sleeping
And the vision that was planted in my brain
Still remains
Within the sound of silence

In restless dreams I walked alone
Narrow streets of cobblestone
'Neath the halo of a street lamp
I turned my collar to the cold and damp
When my eyes were stabbed by the flash of a neon light
That split the night
And touched the sound of silence

And in the naked light I saw
Ten thousand people, maybe more
People talking without speaking
People hearing without listening
People writing songs that voices never share
And no one dared
Disturb the sound of silence

"Fools", said I, "You do not know
Silence like a cancer grows
Hear my words that I might teach you
Take my arms that I might reach you"
But my words, like silent raindrops fell
And echoed
In the wells of silence

And the people bowed and prayed
To the neon god they made
And the sign flashed out its warning
In the words that it was forming
And the sign said, "The words of the prophets are written on the subway walls
And tenement halls"
And whispered in the sounds of silence

Hi Ajay
Yes I did have the Bryston 3BSST/4BSST/4BSST2 alongwith the BP6 preamp driving B&W 804/ 805s maybe sometime in 2008.

Ones tastes change and in my case they changed quite a bit. Earlier I craved transparency, slam, dynamics and always played at more than a healthy SPL and a powerful Power amp was the ONLY way to go. Now its quite the reverse and its only a sweet tone that matters. The accuphase is a very relaxed, refined sound. Its pleasantly coloured full sound. It drives anything but the most difficult loads with aplomb and is beautifully built(internal/external) plus its a brand that I have admired for ages.

The Bryston is all about control. It keeps most speakers on a leash and has a reasonably neutral though slightly forward sound.

It all depends on what fits better in your chain.

I sold it as I wanted something that to my mind was better and an Accuphase fit the bill. Lastly Bryston was making too many changes in 2008/2009 (SST to SST2) and some of the amps that were churned out at the time had a few issues IMO. The hair brain touch membrane start up switch or the voltage monitor LED are a few examples. Naturally the 20 year warranty is a strong selling point and one is always looked after by Bryston.

Rgds

PS The Transparent IC that u have acquired will sound great on the combo.

Here is my favourite:

Eddie Vedder - Long Nights (For the movie "Into The Wild")

Have no fear
For when I'm alone
I'll be better off than I was before

I've got this life
I'll be around to grow
Who I was before
I cannot recall

Long nights allow me to feel
I'm falling
I am falling
The lights go out
Let me feel
T'm falling
I am falling safely to the ground
Ah...

I'll take this soul that's inside me now
Like a brand new friend
I'll forever know

I've got this light
And the will to show
I will always be better than before

Long nights allow me to feel
I'm falling
I am falling
The lights go out
Let me feel
I'm falling
I am falling safely to the ground
Ah..

Everybody has his personal version of Plato's Utopia.A perfect, civilized world where peace and joy reigns and all the residents of planet earth are equally blessed.Well here's one version of Utopia I wholeheartedly approve off....

IMAGINE
JOHN LENNON

Imagine there's no Heaven
It's easy if you try
No hell below us
Above us only sky
Imagine all the people
Living for today

Imagine there's no countries
It isn't hard to do
Nothing to kill or die for
And no religion too
Imagine all the people
Living life in peace

You may say that I'm a dreamer
But I'm not the only one
I hope someday you'll join us
And the world will be as one

Imagine no possessions
I wonder if you can
No need for greed or hunger
A brotherhood of man
Imagine all the people
Sharing all the world

You may say that I'm a dreamer
But I'm not the only one
I hope someday you'll join us
And the world will live as one

This is my favorite........

No New Year's Day to celebrate
No chocolate covered candy hearts to give away
No first of spring
No song to sing
In fact here's just another ordinary day

No April rain
No flowers bloom
No wedding Saturday within the month of June
But what it is, is something true
Made up of these three words that I must say to you

I just called to say I love you
I just called to say how much I care
I just called to say I love you
And I mean it from the bottom of my heart

No summer's high
No warm July
No harvest moon to light one tender August night
No autumn breeze
No falling leaves
Not even time for birds to fly to southern skies

No Libra sun
No Halloween
No giving thanks to all the Christmas joy you bring
But what it is, though old so new
To fill your heart like no three words could ever do

I just called to say I love you
I just called to say how much I care, I do
I just called to say I love you
And I mean it from the bottom of my heart

I just called to say I love you
I just called to say how much I care, I do
I just called to say I love you
And I mean it from the bottom of my heart, of my heart,
Of my heart

I just called to say I love you
I just called to say how much I care, I do
I just called to say I love you
And I mean it from the bottom of my heart, of my heart,
Baby of my heart
