Wireless adds a huge amount of complexity. If one can connect by wire then it's a good chance to keep it simple.
The speed, though, of my D-Link 802.11n is very acceptable.
The trick is not to use the router, only the WAP. I connect my router and Internet modem to the same Ethernet skipping the WAN port. Of course security still needs to be carefully setup. Nothing to beat surfing from ones pillow in bed. Wired won't give you that.
