Is it safe to buy items from websites like ebay which have products with sellers warranty and not manufacturers warranty ?
What are the pros and cons since these products are only about 50 to 75 % of the price with manufacturers warranty .
Thanks.

Most sellers on Ebay are not manufacturer authorized dealers, so according to most manufacturers, the products purchased from them are not eligible for warranty support even though the Ebay listing indicates manufacturer warranty. Just search the manufacturer websites for their policy on online purchases and you'll see.

For cases where it clearly is stated as dealer warranty on Ebay, forget contacting the manufacturer for any kind of warranty support, you will have to deal with the Ebay seller for any problems and ship the product back to them at your cost to for service/support.

Not worth it, unless you are willing to risk the warranty and for some manufacturers post-warranty support too.

thx for the reply.
No wonder their prices are so low.....there is a samsung 48 inch led tv for 45k ! The MRP on other sites is almost 70-75 K.
That is tempting indeed. The only real worry is if the product is brand new. If its brand new isnt it worth taking a risk???
It is very unlikely that the Tv would give a problem in the 1st yr . Anyways after a year the warranty is not there.
As I said before ....the product should be brand new then maybe it is worth the risk..

That is difficult enough to know offline, online even more difficult. At least with the better online sites you can return it easily (Amazon, Flipkart). Ebay, forget about returning anything let alone getting anything done easily.

Usually the rule with electronics used to be that if anything is going to go wrong, it will during the initial usage period not thereafter. Modern electronics mostly is the other way around, especially with some LCD's that show problems as they age. Your shiny new TV from Ebay works fine for a year and promptly goes kaput a year plus one day. What then?

Anyways after a year the warranty is not there
Many manufacturers offer an extended warranty that can be purchased before the warranty expires which extends your warranty for an additional 2 to 3 years depending on the manufacturer. You won't be able to buy the extended warranty even if you want to, on a product that you purchased from a vendor not recognized by the manufacturer as an authorized dealer.

That's a call you'll have to take, balancing saving against risk. I have taken that risk with manufacturer warranty in a few gray market purchases but those were for products that were just not available for sale in India.

how was your experience with the products purchased from the grey market???
I just feel that in case the product does need repairs you can always call the manufaturer service center and pay for the repair. By the amount you save from the initial purchase im sure the repairs would get covered. In effect if you buy the grey product like the samsung tv then you would be having a tv without warranty but you would be having at least 30k-35k in your hand to cover any repair in the first 3 yrs.
It would be interesting to know how many percentage of people do indeed require expensive repair of their samsung led tv in the first 3 yrs itself..

I got an offer for 20K plus for a 32" (or 40" not sure) tv as seller warranty covered 3-5yrs. I thought that was a good deal! That was tempting. But i did not show interest further. Did not check for the brand!

I haven't needed service for those products as yet, so can't really say.

I've seen at least a couple of posts on the forum where FM's said that the service centers refused service for gray market products even though they were willing to pay.
