I m new to the forum and new for vinyl and turntables. I have few LPs and a cosmic cogram 4000 tt. It was my ultimate wish in class 5th that when i shall be earning, i would by tt and lp's. When i started earning unfortunately tt and vinyl were out of scene. Now i m trying to rekindle it because professionally i have some time. My query to senior esteemed members is regarding MARANTZ TT420 TURNTABLE, a local vendor is offering me with price of 16000inr,its direct drive automatic tt. Please Enlighten.

Hello and welcome, not a bad desire to have, vinyl ambitions lead to bliss if properly realized after research, knowledge acquisition and consultation.

It is quite common for us enthusiasts to deep dive initially and then quickly realize that we need something better. Hence though the Marantz TT looks pretty good for a start, at that kind of price point, you should be able to get something better, like a Technics Direct Drive Turntable for example.

In my view, Technics Direct Drives are the best way to start. They are very reliable and the tonearms are pretty good at tracking even older records However the challenge is that you'd have to search for one as most Technics users never sell. Contacting some of the senior forum members like Shafic could be of help He may have something to offer you. He had previously put up a brand new Technics turntable for sale, not sure if he still has it: http://www.hifivision.com/sale-owner/67223-technics-sl-q-300-direct-drive-tt.html

Please Enlighten.

It seems your dealer is charging you more for the brand that the turn table. The Marantz TT 420 does not command such a high price. I won't pay more than 8k for it. Heck; even 8 k is too high for this turntable.

If you are willing to blow 16k, you much rather save up a little more and buy a new one.

Do not spend more than 10k on a used turntable.

probably start with diagnosing what is worng with current set-up, cartridge used, phono pre used, cables and so on. that way you will also get a better understanding of how a turntable and its associated accessories + components work. start with watching you tube videos as there are lots of instructional and educational ones available to learn from. analogue sound is very much a connection to ones soul so do take the time and make effort to learn more about its working.

good luck

I have a national panasonic ledsonic 3600 stereo deck with phono input and same 8ohm speakers. Cosmic tt have shure cart n stylus.
What should i upgrade first? Shafic's offer is on.

do you have access to any old timer technician around you? if yes then take the tt to him & see if he can repair the issues associated with it and also check the phono pre of your amp and stylus of your current cartridge. other option is to come down to any metro around you and look at what options are available with regard to repairing your current tt, buying a pre owned one or even a new one.

if you are not having patience to do above then best solution would be to buy a new tt and phono pre. that way, you have just to plug the new components in and start playing your records.

why i am suggesting new is because with a pre owned tt, there is always possibility of something going wrong and you being unable to get it rectified easily if you do not have access to repairman around you. take your time to decide once you have weighed in all factors.

For excellent sound that won't break the bank, the 5 Star Award Winning Wharfedale Diamond 12.1 Bookshelf Speakers is the one to consider!
