For watching movie alone Get Western Digital media player. It supports all formats , and you can play movies from Harddisk as well.

Sony PS3 can play Bluray - but it doesnt support MKV and Movie files > 4GB size since it has FAT file format.

If you are more specific about playing Bluray movies + downloaded movies , then get SAMSUNG bluray player, it supports most of the downloadable formats.

I use the Apple TV3 as my media player. Connects via a common Wifi Network.

I find the Apple TV amazing to use as a medial player.

Minimum Requirements:
1. Apple TV :D
2. iTunes account (enable home sharing)
3. Desktop or Laptop (this is where your media will be)
4. Apple iPhone4 and above or iPad2 and above
5. Your TV needs to have an HDMI Port
6. If you want to play via your Amp, then the Amp needs to have Optical IN

Note: You may face restrictions in palying formats other than .mp4 for videos. Music is all good.

By the way, I also use a Verbatim MediaShare Drive as my media player which is quite good as well.

Thought ill share what I do at my place.

I use the Apple TV 2 jailbroken with XBMC installed on it. All my network media is stored on the DLINK 323 4tb NAS. I think Apple TV 2 is a great budget media player but only if it is jailbroken with XBMC installed. It plays the 1080p mkvs flawlessly by downgrading them to 720P(not that I could tell the difference). It also has netflix support and the XBMC addons like NAVI-X will give you ample options to stream any content.

As I said, the only limitation of this setup is probably the 720p downscaling. I also have a PS3 but I hardly use it for movies as my wife needs the subtitles to be available and it cant play the mkv files. XBMC downloads subtitles automatically through its plugins.

A beautiful, well-constructed speaker with class-leading soundstage, imaging and bass that is fast, deep, and precise.
