guys! just back from the Metallica concert... a concert that NEVER happened. no opening band, no DJ act and no Metallica... just a stooooooopid announcer who comes up and says that "due to technical reasons, the show has to be postponed until tomorrow evening - 4 pm!"

wonder what kind of 'technical' problems they faced....

over 10,000 people were left speechless... bottling their anger and walking away frustrated... most of the people (me included) reached the venue at 3pm, for a show that would start at 6...

I just can't understand the jinx with Delhi rock shows anymore....

will i try my luck tomorrow, again?

YOU BET!

just praying for the show to happen....

BTW, all banaglore guys - DNA the events company who is doing the show, is a complete nut job... they have not plannned anything right... no loo's, one little table for snacks and cold drinks - totally unplanned crap....

Oh my god!! That's bad.. I still remember the first iron maiden concert, with no adequate loos, no water to drink for anyone half way through the show..
But later on they did pull of some decent gigs..

Anyway any official statement as to why the whole thing was postponed??

No official apologies.... just a flimsy "due to technical difficulties...." kind of line was fed to us....

the most ridiculous bit was when the crowd started booing the MC threatens to cancel even the postponed show!

unbelievable stupidity!

real bad news comin in!!! Metallica lost equipment worth 2,00,000$ including merchandise, drum kit and drum monitors.. This may even lead to cancellation of the Bangalore gig.. Here's one of the statements that came in

"This is what exactly happened, the front row barricade wasn't strong enough to hold the crowd. Eventually it was broken and the crowd swarmed on the stage, broke the drumkit, monitors. Metallica management took the decision of closing it down due to unfit condition. All the merch has been stolen, the big screen has been broken by throwing chairs. What's wrong with us? Can't be sain? Now specially the barricades will be flown from europe for the gig. Fingers crossed for tomorrow. After speaking to biffy clyro's manager this what he has to say "last when I came down to India with spice girls and today its the same, nothings changed" ".

What's wrong wth the people there!! Thrashing the band's equipments!! they are just meddling with the dreams of 50,000 plus fans.. Oh this ain't happening.. Sad day for the Indian Metal Scene, Real Sad day..

hi,

Cancelling the concert at the last moment is not fair. At the same time mad mob thrashing equipments's is not acceptable.

Some one breaks our audio gear, shall we react and break his bones???

cheers

Well cancelling the concert never is fair, And I can understand what led the crowd to go violent, waiting in the front row for 3 hours with thousands pushing you from behind, and from sides, suffering all this for your favorite band and all of a sudden one guy comes n says concert cancelled you may go back!! Yes even I would protest but never ever would meddle with the band's equipment, I myself am part of a metal band and I'm sure anyone who is part of the Indian Metal movement would want some sort of action taken against all those who thrashed the band's valuables..
Well the concert's not happening in Delhi anymore, fingers crossed that the band plays in Bangalore.. But with so much happening to their equipments, I really doubt the band will. Oh i wana get drunk.. seeya guys

Majorly pissed off hearing & seeing all the madness!

This is just not done. Now no band will ever think of playing in gurgaon/NCR

NCR does'nt deserve such concerts .... don't want to sound out the truth in here as there might be a 'protest' deluge. Organisers should have understood that such events necessarily is for the West and the South.

Malvai,
After the way the band (and the organisers) have treated the fans, why would you want to go back and attend another concert from them, assuming it even takes place?

I think this reflects our third-world mentality, where mutual respect for fans is not even acknowledged by the band team but we still want to go and give them respect and money because they happen to be a "phoren" entity. I am not directing this remark at you individually per se, just an observation about the Indian fans in general when it comes to foreign singers. The latest entrant to India is Lady Gaga...let's see if she (and her team) treat Indian fans any better.

I don't know guys.... one can always justify by saying Delhi doesn't deserve such concerts etc... bit you had to be there to understand the anger...

Contrary to all reports, the announcers did not give any particular reason for 'postponing' the show. Then he (the announcer) goes on to say that Metallica is in the hotel giving a press statement! WHICH, we all know is bunkum!

then as the crowd starts boooing him, he threatens to ensure that the show will not happen even the next day!

I wouldn't blame delhi for its anger... the announcer, roused a rabble - single handed!

On the whole the entire set-up seemed to be below par...

imagine providing for just one food counter for 25,000 people!
No Loo.
a very narrow and a single entry/exit point... imagine what would happen in case of a fire or a stampede...
no security (except for a few inept private security guards...
and very very bad spokes people manning the mic console.

IMHO, as a spectator, the entire situation was tinderwood needing a spark....

Bro, i don't think that the band is at fault really... my backstage sources tell me that the event agency really goofed up with the band as well... i think that these events agencies are still way below par with their operations and management and that's what pisses off most performers who come to the subcontinent...

Yes malvai, Please don't blame the band.. The band treats its fans good enough and that's the reason even after having their equipment being damaged they are playing down South In Bangalore..
If you follow rock n roll history, a few years back there was a gig with Metallica and Guns n Roses in the US, when it all went wrong and furious fans ravaged the venue. One thing to note was they vented their anger on cars and all that was around and they never messed with the stage neither the band's equipment. The videos that are circulating around this incident just shows how stupid the mob really was, climbing on stage, ruining the sound systems, the drum kit.. Man if I were part of Metallica, I would have cancelled the whole tour.
Yes poor organising may have been there but doesnt give anyone the right to mess with a band's property.. If you were at the first Iron Maiden concert the scenario was almost the same with less water, less loos and less food counters for a 35000 odd crowd. But the gig went perfectly fine and all were happy. After all that I've seen, I seriously second the public opinion that the NCR doesnt deserve these kinda gigs.. Heavy metal is all about the brother hood and mutual respect. Even though the fans look like monsters, with black tees and long hair, long beard n stuff, we are famous for the respect we give to bands and to fellow concert goers.. If you've been to a gig in Bangalore you'll understand that.. But it was nothing like that in Delhi and the videos are a proof to it..

dude, not blaming the band... but blaming the organiser - DNA....

the media isn't reporting the facts either! THE FACT IS THAT THE ORGANISER DID NOT HAVE THE LICENCE FOR THIS PERFORMANCE DESPITE SELLING THE SHOW MONTHS IN ADVANCE!
The irate fans are the effect of this screw up. and NOT the cause of the show being cancelled!

There were fans from all over India - rajisthan, mumbai, gujrat etc... they were the most furious as a loit of their investment went down the drain... most of us delhiites just walked out...

Still after knowing the people here, why cant they put an strong barricade earlier itself or dig an crocodile pit around the stage or even placing an ready made concrete barricade around the stage.:)

As we know our cricket grounds are protected like these, so Mettalica is not equal to the world cricketers ???:indifferent14:

Read this for sometime and it is very funny how people enjoy the concert. Seen it live but reading is fun.

@Malvai I do get the crowd mentality but all I am pissed off about is the band's equipment being thrashed.. The guys should have thrashed the organisers and any property that belonged to them.. Now the poor sounds guy must be taking count of all the damaged equipments..

And yes even I HATE DNA for one thing , that they brought Backstreet Boys to India under the Rock in India Banner.. Sadly no matter what there is no other event manager who's been bringing in these acts, Megadeth, Iron Maiden, Aerosmith, Roger Waters, Machine Head, now Metallica.. all brought to India by DNA.. A few exceptions would be Lamb of God, textures, Amon amarth etc..

So until someone comes out with a company that handles the international acts we will have to live with this strand of DNA.. Sadly that's the fact
