My old microwave oven is conked. Is there anything I need to look for if buying a new one ? Anything to avoid. I see many microwave with ceramic interiors and all. Are they any good ?

Got my Electrolux some 5 yrs back. Works like a charm till now. Dont know the market trend these days. Personally I stay away from LGs. But users say, they are not bad at all.
I can say that electrolux is good. It has Mirowave/Grill/ Convection options.

Couple of days back I purchased Samsung Microwave in reliance. I asked around multiple places and every sales person suggested either Samsung or LG. Samsung is not very good looking but has ceramic coating which I guess is easy to maintain and clean. Also they are giving 10 yrs warranty on the ceramic. This comes only in the commercial models and will cost north of 10K....

Other than that major difference is the preset mode nothing much differs, LG has more than 100 but i think this is not something we use it that much. Samsung had around 55 i think...

The features vary. Even though I knew I would never use the convection-oven (because I have an oven in the kitchen) I still wasted my money on a microwave with one :o

I had an LG which died on me after 6 years. A year ago, I picked up this one:

Sharp

This is a JDM model assembled in Thailand, has everything including the kitchen sink. Cost me 11k. Got it from Modern World, Domlur.

Well i would recommend one with stainless steel inside and jog dial control vs the cheaper membrane based ones.
Lg is good but its fit and finish is not good, but has good after sales and support/A.S.S.
Panasonic and whirlpool have excellent fit and finish with solid build, but there A.S.S is bad.

A year ago i bought a lg microwave although i wanted a panasonic one the model i was looking for was not yet launched in india and the A.S.S experience i had with my panasonic refrigerator put me off.

Anyway if you have a ezone nearby check out their prices on lg its unmatched by other dealers period.

Had really good experience with Samsung. Besides the brand itself, you should generally buy the biggest model you can fit in your kitchen, and a convection/grill is really useful as Thad mentioned. We did not have a separate oven (which is the best of course), but having a convection/grill opens up a world of possibilities in terms of baking, grilling, broiling, etc.

We had a steep learning curve when we started using the convection features in ours and also a few failures (once, due to a power cut in the middle of baking a cake, and several times because the temp settings are actually not very accurate), but having this feature allows for a lot of experimentation. Most of the recipes on the net have a baking element in them and it is such a pity to not be able to use those recipes.

I would also reiterate the size part of it. A micro or an oven can never be too small.

Nice timing, my LG microwave is near end of life, so would be looking for one too.

I need one with microwave/convection and grilling options as I doubt I will invest in separate ones.

Not very happy with my old LG one as it always gave me trouble while baking/grilling. Not sure if its the same with all models.

bought a LG 32 litres with all the gadgetry grill/convection and some 200 presets .. working fine. it conked off once due to fluctuation but being in warranty they replaced the board.. besides that working all good..

dont know how good the prduct are but all i can say is they LG service is just a phone call away. be it my ac tv or microwave i have seen them with all and the fridge too.. they come as fast as they can.

I have the ifb src1 and and lg too. Both are good however the menus are cooler in the LG and yes LG has good after sales service.

IFB microwaves look really cool BTW. I dont know much but once an IFB rep advised me not to go for a microwave by IFB. However, their washing machines are rated among the best.

According to the equivalent thread on Team-BHP, their washing machines were rated highly when they had a partnership with Bosch. However, they are not now, and nor is their customer service.

No personal experience, just passing this on, but, on the basis of what I hear I would not buy IFB.

My friend's brother works in LG and when I asked him earlier, he mentioned that most brands are equal at this time in quality. It will be the customer care, price and features that will make the difference.

LG has horizontal rotisserie and Samsung has Vertical. Didn't find much difference otherwise when I was searching for one 2 months back. Warranty was 2 years standard for most brands.

I ended up buying Samsung due to the size (32L) and price.

I had used IFB for 2 years without any issues and due to upgrade changed to LG.
I find LG customer service is good and fast.
Once I had a issue with operation and dialed the customer support, the guy on phone said within 48hrs and the executive was at my place within 2hrs.

Customer care of serviceable appliances totally depends on
(1) local service person
(2) local service franchisee
(3) company handling of local service franchisee

It is different in each city for each company. I don't think there will be a case where service is either fully good or fully bad throughout the country. What you need to do is find out how the service is in your local area before you take the plunge.
