Microwave

According to the equivalent thread on Team-BHP, their washing machines were rated highly when they had a partnership with Bosch. However, they are not now, and nor is their customer service.

No personal experience, just passing this on, but, on the basis of what I hear I would not buy IFB.

It is true, their washing machines from the past years( after their termination with bosch)have really poor build quality. They by far had the worst fit and finish compared to any other brand including haier .

Another thing negative is the after sales support.

Those who want good washing machines with the best build quality stick with bosch,Siemens both are eurpean and whirlpool a american company which is the worlds largest home appliance maker.
Lg is gaining popularity thanks to their good after sales support and cheaper price. They are definitely much better then current IFB.

Its ONLY after-sales service in case of Microwaves! All machines, at least the basic ones, have virtually the same performance levels. Yes, in case of looking for exemplary performance like absolute even heating of food (which, otherwise cannot happen no matter what the brand) one may look at Inverter MWOs. These would slowly increase the wave emissions over a certain duration, instead of the full peak (as happens with all general MWOs) on activation. This ensures even heating / cooking.

I currently possess an LG (basic) for the last 4 years. Prior to that, I had a Panasonic Inverter machine, which lasted exact 4 years. Inverter circuit developed a snag, and with no Panasonic service in place, had no option but to dump it. Even the repair cost quoted by an unofficial Pana service outlet was coming to @ 50% of the unit cost! Though, the time the machine lasted, it was a dream. It could automatically gauge as to when the cooking (any dish) is complete and shut off the machine.

Regarding IFB washing machines only the top 3 models are imported from Germany and have 3 years warranty the rest are made in India with 1 year warranty. Previously all their machines were imported. Bought an IFB admiral 8 kg front loader lately as the Bosch and Siemens service was not available in my city.

You should buy a basic microwave which cost about Rs 3500 as it is mostly used for reheating only and should invest in a good oven which can be used for various things.

Stay away from all the convection ovens - higher price and huge electricity bills.
Pick up a straight forward microwave oven for approx 4k-5k and you should be good for a few years.

my 0.02!

Higher power consumption is only when you use the grill or convection mode.

Yes thats what I meant. Microwave ovens with these features also cost a lot more for really not that much more in terms of features. Using a microwave oven to grill or roast is not very effective. Much better to just get an OTG separately IMO.

To be honest unless one has lot of help or extra hand in the kitchen ,its just better to go out and eat .rather then making a mess of the kitchen.:) by grilling or using the convection.

You can do that up to a point. For folks who spend a significant amount of time eating out, after a while, a simple dal and roti/rice eaten at home is a pleasure.

I have to admit a liking for home cooking. I even like my own cooking. Since coming to India, I have had the luxury of not having to wash up afterwards, but, in terms of household employees, that is about as far as it goes, except for our maid making my morning chai for me :D
