Mojo missing in 45s compared to the 33s

They say the 45s are of Higher Resolution and thus have the potential for superior playback quality! There are quite a few theories backing this...

That said, why is the Mojo missing from these 45s when compared to the 33s? In my experience the 33s generally sound much better than the 45s. I have a huge collection of EPs and all have been cleaned throughly but still no mojo in them!

Hello RP,

Even I have read theories supporting the 45s stating these things majorly:

1. More availability of vinyl per second.
2. Higher revolution speed meaning greater friction and hence, cleaner & brighter sound.

I can understand the first point to an extent, but for the second point, I think the speed really won't matter as the contact area is very very minuscule. Hence, a slight increase in RPM should not matter at that point.

Will be interested in knowing what's the vinyl gurus take on this.

7 inch records were never intended for autiophile listening, they were mainly in vogue for releasing singles, for juke boxes and for kiddie record players. Also, they were a cheaper option in price consicious markets like India. The quality of pressing was never up to the level of 12 inch vinyl especially of the heavier type (180 gms +).

If you have 12 inch vinyl running at 45rpm, you'd experience much better sound quality when compared to 12 inch vinyl running at 33rpm.

On a 45rpm disc, the length of groove area for a given time - say a minute - of music is larger than that on a 33rpm disc. This gives the cutting engineer greater flexibility in modulating the groove dimensions, and hence provides much easier tracking for the cartridge, with commensurately better sound. Which is why so many audiophile reissues are on 45 rpm.
