mac mini 2014 vintage with a hack to install the latest MacOS using opencore legacy patcher. Having the latest Macos (Sequoia 15.1) allows me to have Apple Music App with hires playback. There is no performance issue on this old mac mini with the original HDD replaced by SSD. The older macs have IR ports which work with apple tv remote to control music playback. This is the prime reason I use the older macmini. The new models don't have IR portWhich mac mini is it?
There are at least 2 hifivision member I have guided to install opencore legacy patcher to get the latest official MacOS installed on their macbook pros
If you don't require apple music, you can install linux, which is miles ahead of MacOS. Install mpd and cantata and you are done for life. BTW I'm maintaining mpd and cantata for MacOS and Linux. You can install the same using apt-get / dnf / yum from
Install package home:mbhangui:raspi / cantata
software.opensuse.org
If you need the package for MacOS you can PM me for the binaries. I do not yet have a way to host the binaries for MacOS on a public page. This is right now me playing music using cantata/mpd (compiled by me) on my macbook pro
