Mono LP Vinyls

Fascinating stuff. I now know more ...but have the same perspective :).

Leaves me wondering, though, why higher-end phono pre-amps don't come with the same facilities of independent R and L gain. And a mono switch. I think some have the ability to vary the Eq curve? The equipment in that video looks like pretty basic ideas.

Many hi-end ones comes with all the trappings... there is EMT, but their phono costs about $20k+++, then there is a brit manufacturer who sells his phono for about $12k (this one has about 200 odd eq curves I think... Then Nagra has one too at about $40k....

I have the cheapest one at $4k - Monk Audio... Has a knob that lets me choose between stereo, mono (vertical cut), Mono (horizontal cut), Mono (L) and Mono (R)... it also has 5 selectable eq curves that take care of almost all popular eq's...

It also has inputs for 3 diff tonearms! and a whole lot of diff settings that'll take care of ANY kind of MM in the market... and has built in SUT's for the MC...

So, actually, there are a fair amount of well thought out products for a Vinyl head... and at all price points!

Wow. Amazing. I never knew :)

but hey... I bet your vinyl still doesn't sound like mine did, on my Dynatron, back in 1969

(But then, I don't suppose you'd want it to )

Spent a lot of time on an extensive listening session on Friday night / Saturday early morning, listening to vintage vinyl. One of the LPs we listened to extensively (Both sides, twice) was a vintage Mono LP Los Chavales De Espana - Spanish Fire (1962). This record was originally mastered using Mercury Sound Studios f:35d on 35mm magnetic film. Sounded really sublime.

Also listened extensively to another Mono recording, Music for an Arabian Night by Ron Goodwin and his orchestra (Parlophone 1961). Another brilliant experience.

Here's a fantastic mono album I listened to in Rajiv's place awhile back:

I have both the mono and stereo version of this LP. My mono one sounds better. Used to be one of my favorites during my early years of listening. Thanks for bringing it up on the forum. i must listen to it soon
