Well, I broke the vow again Murli
and bought the following from Amazon UK

Oblivion / Battleship / Immortals / Gladiator / 47 Ronin [Blu-ray] [2010] [Region Free]
AvP 1 & 2 Double Pack [Blu-ray]
Johnny English / Johnny English Reborn Double Pack [Blu-ray] [Region Free]
Predator Trilogy [Blu-ray] [1987]

Couldnt resist the deals and bought the BDs even though they r not region free.
Now you should help me in getting my Philips BDP 2180 bluray player Region Free.

I searched everywhere but didnt find anything, the only option thats available is not working.

Let me know if you know anything.

I got very encouraged to see all these discounts on Blu Ray movies on Amazon ... so much that I ordered Spiderman from there in 300/-.
Tried watching it yesterday on my Pioneer BDP180 & found out too much "noise" in that. May be its only 720p, not even 1080.

Though, it was clearly mentioned that it would be 1080. Guess, I would never ever order these things from internet again (atleast, for these cheaper ones).

Anyone else experienced this before ?

Amazon has good return policy why don't u take it up with them? I guess this should be an eye opener that all sale and discount items are not supposed to be good.
Guys do fully check the movies and audio CDs that you buy from Amazon.

Check with Amazon. When you say too much noise, you mean the audio has too much noise or the video has too much grain? Not sure why would it matter for 720p or 1080p. If its a BD, then it will be 1080.

It depends on the source material as well I think. I bought DDLJ BR from amazon, and it was just 480p. I assume that was due to the original movie which might have been shot at that resolution

If the movie would have been shot at that resolution one would not be able to watch it in theatres due to pixelation on such a big screen.

Probably the BR mastering process would be flawed.

480p is a DVD level resolution. That would be plain cheating.

Thanks Ritesh....I am pretty sure that the amazon sale shows up 1080 as the quality written on their page. Its also written on the BR disk cover that came alongwith.
Now, the thing is: I ordered from amazon (blindly by looking at sale) before I bought this player (which came yesterday). So, its over 15 days return policy time. Not sure, if they will entertain this or not.

Interestingly, it is still showing as "Blu Ray" on amazon:

No dude u r 100% mistaken. all blu rays including ddlj are true 1080p. somewhere your setting is wrong in ur player. I have the BD and can confidently say it is 1080p. Sure it look s relatively smooth as compared to today's movies but it simply does not mean its a lower resolution.

And please dont give us ROFL moment when u say movie was shot in 480p. thats plain ridiculous especially even for all movies in the 90's decade.

Using a 10 meter long HD Cable (that is compatible to play Full HD/ 3D material).

I feel it was copied from a DVD, and not an original BR mastering though I brought DDLJ BR from amazon. Other BRs are giving 720p (ACER5370BD) resolution including hindi movies like Veerzara and Dhoom , but somehow DDLJ is still in DVD quality.
