After visiting this forum, I was inspired to create an HTPC using PC components lying around for a long time. Want to know your opinion if it is worth it or should I go for new components altogether. This is what I have at present -

1. AMD Athlon 64 3500+ processor
2. MSI K8N Neo2 Plantinum Mobo
3. Corsair 1GB ValueSelect DDR memory

Planning to buy the following
1. CoolerMaster Elite 361
2. Corsair VS350 W PSU
3. a good pci graphics card, probably ASUS
4. I have a WD 500GB, but i plan to go for a WD 2TB HDD

I know the components are not the latest, but will they serve the purpose of media pc. I want to be able to play downloaded movies and music.

Thanks in advance!

The above configuration may play hd content with the support of a dedicated gpu. Usual 720p and music can be played easily. The media players may not respond fast in this system. My suggestion is to sell/donate this system and get AMD E350 based APU and a 4GB DDR3 stick. It will cost around 6K only.
