This is my first TT setup. I didn't want to spend much. I am not an audiophile, so my expectation was less. But I am very happy with the results. :-)

TT - Audio Technica AT LP-60 bought from US 110v version.
Amplifier - Lepai LP2020A+ 2013 version.
Speakers - Hari Iyer's Krypton bookshelf.

I use a cheap 220v to 110v converter with the TT. It works fine. No problem.

I ditched the stock power adapter from Lepai and replaced with a 12v 4A adapter. Definitely there was a improvement in sound. I keep the volume slightly below the half way point. That itself fills the whole room. The blue LED is annoying though.

Krypton speakers are the best value for money speakers. Before buying I listened to Polk bookshelfs and inquired the price (16K at ProFx). I feel that Krypton sounds better than Polk for a lesser price. :-)

Only thing I can complain now is about non availability of good LPs and about cleaning the old LPs. Somehow I am not able to get rid of the surface noise.
Planning to try Kuruvila sir's distilled water+isopropyl alcohol cleaning method (without vacuuming) . I will post the results.

Thanks.

Congrats!! Welcome to vinyl world!!
Nice set up you have.Isolate the speakers from the table.Keep a gap of 6 feet between the two speakers. Place them 3 feet away from the wall. This will give you a better sound stage.

Congrats on your setup!!

You've mentioned words like "cheap", etc. The best system in the world to anyone, is one that gives him/her the best possible listening pleasure. Price or brand does not really matter.

Regarding surface noise, you may or may not be able to eliminate it completely. Turntables are definitely not plug and play devices and likewise, the LP record is definitely not flip and use media like cds or cassettes. There are a whole lot of variables and dependencies that come with listening to records. Getting a good understanding of these will help you set the right expectations on sound quality. Happy listening.

Congratulations on this Suresh and welcome to the Vinyl club.

Awaiting your listening expressions.

And yes, I cant agree more with Reuben's comments above. Its not about the price you pay or the brand you get, its about enjoying your music!

Cheers...

Congratulations Suresh on your new acquisition. Would love to listen to it one day. How much did it cost you finally? I had enquired about it earlier and it appears to be around 18k at NGH

Thank you Ruben & Record Player. I saw people blasting AT-LP60 in many other sites. Still I went ahead & ordered it. I am happy about it now.

Coming from Tape recorder, CD player & PC, Turntable is a pleasant surprise in terms of audio quality. Usabilitywise I am bit frustrated (no rewind, fast forward, no auto detection of 7" or 12"). Hopefully I will get used to it. :-)

I ordered it in Amazon. My friend brought it for me. It cost me $88, approx Rs.5544 (88*63).

Suresh,
My hearty wishes for getting into LP World.
Nothing can close to the Purity of music which is reproduced from LP.Though am not yet granted to enter the VW I still feel the Rhythm and SQ which TT delivered for a Crapy song too :-), So no wonder its going to amaze me.

You believe it or Not, i just had Listen to LP only once in Life (Till date) and that too for few Mins with a Entry level Set-up and some Unknown Album.
So what impact does TT ,when my Fav going to sing:licklips:

Ok now coming to the LP's Quality. I been planning with our Bangalore FM's for a Group Buy option for quite while and due to my official commitment unable to urn-out.

But If you are seriously looking for LP, Just drop a note to my email ID, I shall loop you in the email chain (With Fm's who are looking for LP's like you and Me)

NO forward or Rewind Button or NO remote or so shuffling of Tacks? I too was thinking this is an big disadvantage of TT\LP. But after moving towads Digital really i cant feel the MUSIC which was played in RADIO DURING MY childhood. There will be One\two channel playing Music only for some times and people were out of their work too to feel the Song.

I could see 80% of people in city (Youngsters specifically) have atleast 3000+ Songs in their Mobile\Ipods and getting them played 24/7 via Headphone. But am sure only 10-15% Would feel the Music which is getting played as We loved the Radio and Cassette those days.

If we have option, we keep skip things and never give much time on what is played. So spend some time on whats you fav and pick only them as starter. Later you could move to others one by One.

25+LP should be enough to getting the essence of the TT\LP.
All the best.

This is the novelty aspect. Unfortunately guys like me cannot experience this feeling as we grew up with vinyl. If you use a record changer, automation and size detection to some degree is available (but you have to set the speeds manually). It is easy to select tracks on a record when compared to a cassette, just cue and lower the arm over the start of the track. People who move from the modern media to vinyl usually find the cleaning, maintenance and storage as primary challenges. Honestly, you are the first person I've heard relating to things like fast foward, rewind, etc

Suresh,

Congratulations!!!! . Nothing is "Cheap" as long as it can entertain you.
The TT looks nice. If you wanna have a wider sound and have a decent listening space in the room, buy two small stools and keep the speakers on them, instead of keeping them just near the TT.
Congratulations once again.

Anyone who comes from Tape/CD world will expect the same kind of flexibility in TTs.
Just for your kind information:
That's why AKAI came up with AP-M7 Linear Turntable.
The AP-M7 design features advanced technology direct drive, tangential tracking arm built into the advanced iso-optic view cover.
It can detect the record size
You can set it on repeat, move the arm back and forth via two buttons on the front panel. Without scratching your record of course! It has auto stop and auto return of the tangential arm

Reuben, Don't worry, those will become primary challenges when he really starts collecting and listening :D
