any more insights into the world of vinyl and things i should look for would be greatly appreciated. Thanks a lot friends.

Please do help.

Hey there. Firstly welcome to HFV and the lovely world of Vinyl.

Are you looking at pre-owned vintage gear or simply new turntables? We have quite a few threads here on making your first choice. Let me see if I can share those links with you.

Keep them coming, cheers...

As a prospective vinyl user, welcome to the Forum. For a first time user, a decent Japanese Belt Drive is recommended. Preferably an automatic or semi automatic. Go through the threads and you will be enlightened

+1 to Mr. Kuruvila's suggestion. They are the easiest to work with. If you are a complete novice as far as turntables are concerned, then a fully automatic with inbuilt phonostage is the way to go. However I would suggest that you first read up as much as you can on the URLs provided by Record Player and also on the internet. Set up an appointment with your friends who own TTs, go over, spend a few hours, see, feel, listen and experience. The more familiar you get with this medium, the more you will enjoy your turntable when you buy one. Also focus on building a record collection. This is key as having a nice turntable without any decent vinyl to spin on it, is going to defeat the purpose :D

I always feel delighted to welcome someone who's trying out the medium for the very first time or someone who's about to do that. When I see threads with titles like "My first turntable", I feel excited because there's one more person joining this global task force which is working hard towards the resurgence of vinyl. All the very best!!

For the price of the AT model, you can have a better vintage stuff which will not only look classy, but also outperform the newer entry level turntables by a decent margin. Hence, my opinion will be to get a vintage Japanese gear in good condition. A lot of nice turntables do turn up in the classifieds of the forum and you should find a good turntable this way.
