So now I am a proud owner of the famous UDAR Technology deck of Nakamichi. Got the entry level one RX202 and what a sight as the cassette tray comes out,the cassette flips side and the tray goes in......all in one motion. It's amazing.

Here is the video clip of my new purchase. Now my next target is RX505.

I think you should target the 1000. After hearing it at Mr. Kuruvila's place, I am now convinced that it is perhaps, the best cassette deck, ever produced.

U mean to sy the 1000ZXL - the golden one?
Yes its a superb machine but I heard its a bit complicated to operate. Not sure though.

Yes, that's the one:

not sure about that but feature wise, the Dragon will win (or does it? takes a mamoth task to calibrate it and use it, especially for recording)

when it comes to sound, many believe that the 1000 is better and I tend to agree with them as I've heard it myself

again, one would have to listen to both and make a comparision with all other variables standardized

Thanks. Sounds all soo interesting. Somehow this format never got to me though I started my listening years with cassettes predominantly. Not my cup of tea now. When I sort out my cassettes, surely some of the classics will come your way.

Cheers...

thanks RP, after being bowled over by the 1000, now that's on my wish list. First I've got to get done with my record decks.

Speakers were next in line but after the feedback from someone as knowledgeable as Mr. Kuruvila, I've decided to retain my BPL speakers and scrap other speaker plans for now (except for a few experiments with the Philips full rangers)

Big big blunder from my side. By mistake powered it with 220v and its dead now. Am sitting at the mechanic's place trying to figure out the issue. Big setback.

In another post today, I had mentioned about the dangers of operating a NAK using the wrong voltage setting. The issue can be anything from a blown fuse to a fried powersupply (especially the tranny). Lets hope its not worse and nothing is wrong with the main circuitry of the cassette deck. Please keep us updated.

Just coming out of mechanic's place. The transformer gas gone. But if alone the transmitter I would hv been safe. But its more to it as the power transmission at +12v is not happening. Its hovering around 3.5. So there is something more which has gone short. Now need to find out what else gone wrong.
