Hi Guys,

I just wanted to share my experience with my amp Marantz PM5005 + BA A26 speakers and about one of the aspect that really affect the sound quality.

Many of you may know from my previous posts that I had this combo which blowed me away with tremendous sound quality and suddenly after few days it started sounding very flat, with less treble, muddy bass and narrow soundstage. Some people found that is it marijuana or what else?***I changed the cables with no luck. Then suddenly the problem got rectified without doing any changes.*

Speaker placement is another learning for me, from tv unit platform to stand, stand placement 1 feet, 2 feet, 2+ feet from wall, which all affect the sound quality.

Now from past 1 week, that problem has arisen againIt was really frustrating to find the proper solution by changing cables again, removing banana plugs and installing wires without it. But again no luck. Then was thinking to upgrade speakers to solve this issue. But before taking this step, thought to check whether the issue is in amp or not. Hence tested the sound with headphones, but WTF..? The sound was the same Huhhh? That meant, the problem was in ampreally frustrating...

This made me think whether to upgrade amp or get it repaired.. before doing any of these, thought to try luck and bought toolbox worth rupees of 600, opened the amp and what I saw is just...huhhh...the thick layer of dust laying all over the internal parts. Inspite of taking lot of care, covering the amp with cloth every after use, I can see so much of dust inside the amp. I cleaned up everything with brush. Closed the amp cover and did the wiring again....whoaaa, the problem solved...Sound quality is back again...

New learning: DUST affects the sound quality drastically and it should be cleaned on regular basis to increase life of our beloved system. But not sure, how to clean dust in speakers though.

I am now curious about what will be my next learning...

Thanks for reading...

Nice post....yes regular cleaning is required for these delicate beauties....then only they will perform....

Dust (after few days or months) on electronics circuit making so much difference, that's seems to be exaggerating fact! I am clueless.

May be it is more about psychological, after gathering new system the initial overwhelming impression tame down after few days and you start to feel boring, most of time it is common trend.

Hi Srisaikat,

Maybe you might not experienced this or you must be living in a very clean and dustfree city, how lucky you are...!!! I stay in Mumbai Lower parel area, where you can see, every where construction is going on

About psychological aspect, you are partially right but that phase has not come yet. I also mentioned that after clean up, I can hear the same sound which I was missing previously.

So again I am HAPPY with this setup, and still not got bored yet psychologically

Only dust can not make such changes, but Mumbai is high humid city, so together dust and humidity can make some difference I believe.

That means you agreed, that I am not exaggerating LOL

I am not here to debate, but you mentioned only dust on your first post, that's why I was confused. Later I saw you are from Mumbai, so guessed that the great enemy of any electronics "humidity" have the role to play.

Not sure, but do you stay somewhere near water or creeks or canals?? The reason I ask is, I face these issues for all my computer equipment. And the culprit after a thorough investigation is - Sulfur Content in the air. A think layers forms inside of the equipment rendering them useless!! Typical Mumbai issue I think.

I stay at lower parel which is 4 km away from Worli/hajiali Seaface, so not sure about it. But there are lot of construction happening from so many years...so that can be the reason behind it.. don't know
