My pleasant experience with Yamaha AS500

Thanks Krishna for the feedback.

The only problem with CA is pairing with speakers. [/QUOTE]

Does it mean that you need to be choosy while selecting speakers for CA 650A? If yes what kind speakers go well with CA? Is CA amps warm or bright?

Warm or Bright ? I cannot answer but the amp is punchy. Audition it with MS Aviano or if you can afford best match is Dali Icon BS / 5 Mk2.

i had compared the as500 with CA350, 550 and 650A amps. compared to all of them i would say the yamaha had a more detailed soundstage and i found the instrument seperation to be much better. had gone with a friend who was buying the amp and he did end up buying the yamaha with wharf 9.1s. Out of the 3 amps only the 650A came close to the yamaha in my opinion but the yamaha was better and cheaper.

the yamaha has a more natural cleaner sound, the price at which it retails is just brilliant and it includes a phono stage which many amps dont...

had also heard the marantz pm6003, which also sounded great with the 9.1s but didnt spend much time auditioning it. so cant really give a very detailed comparision, but the marantz has got its own sound and it a very sweet sounding amp.

just make sure to test out the amp with the speakers you'll be using before you buy...

Hi Ebenezer,

I differ from your stmt of burning the amp for a few weaks and then losing the high frequencies.

If you are a serious listener then the pure direct does not do a good job for listening - may be your speakers are small and that it gives you a good thump.

I have recently bought A-S500 and have paired them with Cerwin Vegas - its like you are in heaven. I auditioned this (both amp + speakers) along with the equaliser (Yamaha) but now I feel only to use the eq with songs having less high frequencies. The puredirect sounds very bassy with it comes to pairing this amp with these excellent Cvs.
