I have a question for any NAD BEE Integrated amp owners who know the answer.
I connected my NAD 325 BEE pre-outs to a M&K V 75 MK2 subwoofer via it's line level inputs in conjuntion with my Infinity Infinitesimal .01's which are hooked to the NAD's speaker jacks.
Since the M&K V 75 MK 2 doesn't have a set of main-outs (pre-outs) I couldn't return the signal to the main-in's (pre-ins) on the NAD 325.
So, instead of leaving the main in's on the NAD open, I inserted the NAD's shorting pins into the main-in's, bypassing the NAD's amp stage. Nothing.
I also tried running the NAD pre-out signal to the M&K's pre-ins, and leaving the NAD main-in shorting pins out. still no Infinitys, just bass from the M&K sub...which I could turn up or down via the NAD.
When I use my Velodyne CT subwoofer, which has main-in's, and pre-outs, with my NAD 325 BEE pre-outs and main-in's, the speakers and the subwoofer both work perfectly.
My Denon integrated only has pre-outs, no main-in's, so when the M&K is driven from the Denon's pre-outs it works great, as do the speakers hooked up to the Denon's speaker jacks.
To simplify, when using the NAD pre-outs to drive a sub that only has main ins, the speakers attached to the speaker posts of the NAD do not play...even when the main ins on the NAD are shunted.
Seems like the NAD requires a return signal to it's main-in's from the pre-outs of the subwoofer it's driving, or the speaker terminals on the NAD are bypassed.
So, how do I make the Velodyne sub work with the NAD integrated? The Velodyne does not have speaker level out's, just in's, so it can't send a signal via speaker wires to a pair of satellites.
I'm guessing I have to connect the NAD to the Infinitesimals via the NAD's speaker A jacks, and connect the M&K sub through the NAD's speaker B jacks...using the M&K's x-over controls to limit it's upper frequency response.... and use both sets of the NAD's speaker jacks at the same time.
I'll, give it a try, and report back.
In the meantime, if someone knows why this issue with the NAD exists, please weigh in.
The NAD manual makes no mention of using the pre-outs to drive subwoofers, just external processors, and makes no reference to any pre-out, main-in issue.
