I got delivery of a NAD C565 BEE cd player yesterday. It's a demo piece and looks like new. Being a demo piece no running in period was needed and so I immediately got down to enjoying this gem.

I started with Madonna's La Isla Bonita on a universal remastered cd. The first impression was a very detailed, varied and tight mid bass. Not over-bloated, loose or overly tight but exactly as it should be. As the song played on, I was able to visualize a vast soundstage spreading in three dimensions and dead spaces in between some of the instruments.

After hearing this I thought of enjoying more of these capabilities of the C565. I took out a 2L sampler cd containing some very good masterpieces. The low bass region too was very engaging and cellos and low piano notes were excellent. Next was Cowboy Junkies' The Trinity Session disc and the track was 'We are miners'. This album was recorded in the Trinity church and the cd player presented a very good soundstage. The acoustics of the church could be heard and the famous rumble of the air-conditioners from the church also filled my room. C565 got full points in my books for this.

Next I played a XRCD of Bob Marley and I got so lost in the music that I forgot to appreciate the finer points. This itself is a good point in favour of C565. I used to get the same musical experience from a Musical Fidelity A3.5 player and a M1 Clic's DAC.

I have not tried the DAC capabilities of this player which is one of the biggest value additions to this model by NAD.

I tried this with NAD C375BEE integrated amp and Wharfedale 10.7 speakers. Power cords by Supra, Zephyr power conditioner, Interconnects by QED, Monster speaker cable and an acoustically nice room with a really large mug of beer !!! (the last part came in after I had started the Bob Marley disc and maybe one of the reasons why I lost track of details :p )

You might have responded to this query before too ......
Switching to digital from analogue ..... ?? Its the other way around now, I guess!

It just so happens that this player reached me when I am in the process of trimming down my analogue.
I still use analogue more than digital. My wife likes the comfort of digital.

This player came in as a replacement for another model. I have written the story about this in another thread praising the after-sales service provided to me by Mr. Ashish of Lakozy.

Shivam, does this one have stand alone DAC functionality too?

So CDP+mug of beer= Vinyl musicality!

Yes, it can be used as a stand alone DAC too. I have not yet tried it as a stand alone DAC. I'll post my impressions of this aspect too once I have heard it.

a good CDP + a 'really LARGE/HUGE mug' of beer is always equal to good music
and for that matter a good vintage wine without any CD player also is music !!!

More updates on the player-

Today I played a recording of Jagjit Singh's concert. The vocals were deep and made me realise why he was so much loved by his fans. The concert sounded lively and as I had said earlier the soundstage was huge.

Shivam, congrats. How much did you pay for this CD player?

Also I noticed from specs that it has optical input (to use DAC) but not digital coaxial input. So no way to connect from say, laptops (using SPDIF converter).

I paid 43,200 including taxes.

There is only optical input for DAC function. There's USB but as far as I know it is for playing songs from a USB storage device. I'll post details on its DAC capabilities soon.

Hi, It is available for 24k in dubai sale. I just want it for the Dac performance with mac mini with occasional cd playing. How is the dac performance. Will it be on par with the cd playback with lossless ,aterial. Have u tried?

I have not tried its DAC capabilities.
I am spending most of my listening hours with vinyl and so could not check it but from what I have read over the Internet, its DAC is also impressive.

An update on the player-

I tried some low quality discs from 'world music' which were made in India sometime in 1990s. These were priced under 100 when other CDs used to be above 500 at that time. I am not sure if anyone here knows about them.

The sound on this player from these CDs was terrible. The player brought out all the short-comings of these CDs. The sound was hollow and muddled and sounded as if coming from a box.
