Hi,

I am looking for advice 46" full HD LED TV. Has to be a SMART TV with wifi connectivity, USB ports etc. Not to keen on 3D.

I had down selected Sony 46 EX650. Is it good and worth the price tag of INR 83K? Anything else worth in this price tag? Not too concerned with budget - can go up to 1 L also.

Fix your budget. Visit multi-brand showroom. Compare various models and then choose the one with the best PQ. All higher up models are usually built in with smart features. I think Smart features are totally useless and laptop can do a better job. You can easily connect the laptop to TV and view. I have no use of any smart features except a little bit of DLNA. But that is my opinion.

yes loook for picture only...
if you are open to plasma tlc....they are better vfm alongwith better pq anyday...
in your budget you can have a 50 inch plasma i belive..like ut 50 inch from panasonic at about 80k i think...
..or if you go for GT series....it seriously lags any led of same price......about picture...
sammy 50 inch 490 is a budget plasma with very good pq...also check it..around 60k..
ex650 from sony is good no doubt..but nowhere near UT or GT...leave picture color acuracy/deep blacks etc...its picture washes out if you change view angle a little..i think you wont be the only one viewr...
plasma..if looked even from zero/180 degree..retains same color..any brand..any model..

obviously demo and decide...you may like led better...or may like plasma bettter..
also read plasma taking care issue....

with the saved money get a 3rd/2nd gen media player who will serve all your smart feutures..anyday better than tvs onboard systems.....

I don't think the EX650 or EX750 are that great unless you want the 850 which is one of the best performing sony tv's but at a higher price. Also have a look at ST50, would be better than EX650 or EX750. Have a demo of the tv's with HD and SD content, spend some time and then decide.

If you don't have a lot of light coming in your room while viewing then I would go with ST50. I don't want to again start a plasma vs LED debate here, there are loads of them already.

There is a lot of light coming in the room, so plasma wont really fit with that. In terms of LED, while the pic quality is more or less similar across brands, Sony (EX 650) and Panasonic (THL47E5D) seemed way better than Samsung (ES5600). Of course HX850 has one of the best outputs - but has a steep price tag of 120K because of 3D. Sound output in almost all the TVs was not that great - Sony was a tad better. SO have to go for a HT system also.

I was torn between EX 650 or HX 850...I do get better output in HX850 and 3D too - but the Q is - is it worth the price of addl 40K?

HX850 will be replaced by new 'W' series Quantum Dot tech based TV. So confirm. Last heard, the HX850 is now going for large discounts and where stock is remaining, you can get it for 100K or less. HX850 is a great TV and possibly the best LED TV around. Below that is the HX750 and then EX650. I have found that (and this is my personal observation and opinion) that Samsung 7 Series is as good as the Sony HX series while Samsung 6 Series matches the EX650. Haven't seen the Samsung 8 Series that close and so can't comment.

Coming to plasma, the impression that is created is "even if there is some ambient light, steer away from plasma; plasma must be watched in near dark room". This is not true or exaggerated. One can watch plasma with some ambient light. Pull the curtains and you are good to go. If you buy a TV like Sony HX850, it too has a (gorilla) glass panel and reflects like a mirror. The inherent brightness of LED TV compensates somewhat for this. Plasma will yield better PQ and larger screen than an equivalent priced LED TV - anyday.

As others say, plasma offers a different experience in watching movies and there is no doubt in that. For similar experience in LCD, you have to pay a lot to buy the top end LCD models. Having said that, first you need to decide what your choice is between LCD vs Plasma. In case you have any confusion between Plasma and LCD, clear that first. There are so many threads (both in this forum and outside) on LCD vs Plasma. So first go through them and get convinced on what your choice is. Beware of some of the biased/thoughtless suggestions given by few fanatics. Once you are convinced for Plasma or LCD, here are my suggestions :-

1. If LCD is what your final preference is, go for 46 inch HX850 and as
just4kix pointed out, you may get a discount on that (final price might be around 1L or lesser than that). You can wait for 2013 Sony models, but I am afraid you may not get a 46 inch model for around 1L. One of the forum members got a huge discount on HX850.

2. In case you don't get HX850, then there are so many options from both Samsung and Sony. To me, EX650 is a good performer and equally good models are available in Samsung as well. So in that case, you better do an audition with your own video clips stored in your memory stick.

3. In case your choice is Plasma, there are many suggestions. You can get a 50 inch plasma around 1 L. Samsung is coming out with new plasma models for 2013. Panasonic is yet to release their 2013 model line up.

So first get to know the facts on LCD vs Plasma and choose your preference. I reapeat ... Don't get influenced by some of the negative things said about LCD vs Plasma. There are lots of unbiased opinion/suggestions on this. So once you become aware of the facts, it will be lot easy to finalize the exact model.

Couple of days back, I went to Sony Centre (Kalyan Nagar, Bangalore) to purchase PS3 and casually enquired for 46HX850. The stocks are available, but when I enquired the price, the showroom guy quoted the same from MRP (1.2L). When I asked for any possible discount, he was not giving me any confident reply. I thought of talking with the store manager there, but unfortunately he wan't there. There is one thread (i don't remember exactly) where a person got an HX850 from a Sony centre in Mumbai at a very huge discount. If you can get the post and share the information with any Sony centre, I think you have a very good chance of getting a huge discount. Since the stocks are running out, you may need to hurry up a bit.

as with music systems, go into a showroom and trust your eyes to pick out the one that gives the best picture (obviously you would shortlist ones with the required features first)

Vikasarya, Sony 46HX850 was available for 1.05k at Croma Saket about 10 days back. I would suggest to go for it instead of 46ex650, price difference is worth it.

That is a very good deal !!! Hurry up ... Make sure it is not a demo piece.

I am a Sony loyalist, but when I compared the features and flexibility and compatibility of Samsung Smart TVs, I picked one. I don't want to influence you but be open to evaluate all options.
