I'd second the previous suggestions from prosenjit and just4kix. I too was in the same dilemma as you are, after joining this forum and the valuable advice i got from the FMs here i've decided to scrap HTiB and build the dream system in a staggered manner. Good luck!

You won't be able to enjoy FLAC in home theater in a box. They are not well suited for music.
Buy Marantz / Yamaha AVR and then add 2 bookshelf speakers like Wharfedale 121. You can later add other speakers. Its the best solution.

I would suggest to build separate system for stereo and movies. A HTiB for movie is good enough and then slowly buy a dedicated stereo if it at all matters to you.
