Hi guys :-)
Got the Bravia 46" EX520. Does anyone know how to setup DLNA to stream movies via PC? I have a wifi dongle with it, and youtube/browser works great. But, not able to setup dlna. any help would be appreciated.

Thanks a lot.

Use PS3 Media Server which is a DLNA compliant and Upnp Media Server.
I have tested it with my 40EX720, and works like charm.

Will let you know particular version which I am using, as later versions I used had issues.

You can explore on your own, if you are techie.

Only hitch is you need to use physical LAN than Wifi to avoid shuttering or buffering issues.

Have you tried streaming mkv files over DLNA to your TV ? I ask because its increasingly likely that I'll be getting the 40CX520 delivered soon and might have to get a media player with USB support since Sony doesn't do mkvs.

I've got a 'n' wifi router and am curious to know if 720p or 1080p mkv files with high bitrate can be streamed over from the PC without any buffering lags , with the TV connected to the network through ethernet .

It all Depends on the signal strength how much it can deliver/stream.
Better/higher the signal strength, smoother the streaming.. so placing of the router is important.

Which OS you use? You can setup dlna easily on a win 7 OS. Make sure that your tv is connected to the network and media sharing is enabled on your windows7 under advanced sharing settings. Under network in win7 you should see a media device with the name you specified for your tv dlna. Double click it to install. Now right click any media file in explorer and use the menu 'Play To'.

I have tried dlna streaming from my laptop wifi to my himedia hd600b player and found no stuttering with a 4GB 720p file and a 1080p 2.5gb file. So with a wired network, there shouldn't be any stuttering with normal brrip files.

I do have windows 7. This is a screenshot of my media "streaming" window. I am not able to follow your steps.

I have tried Ps3 media server, mezzemo, isedora. All tried. They all show media server is running but neither my pc can find bravia neither bravia any of the media servers.

edit I checked my laptop, which has the same version of Win 7 in that I can see the bravia, and stream media. But the same isn't working on my desktop. It has no firewall or anything like that. It has a static IP though, which I set to automatic and tried. but not working. I can't see my bravia on the pc. whatcha do!!

If you use PS3 media sever, all file formats works, there are few exceptions with specific files but not formats.

I prefer wired connection, as I dont have N router, I work with combination of Combo DLINK DSL/Wifi router (G) and my 1 gigbit ethernet switch.
When I tested Media server streaming on TV (it has 100 MBPS Network), it was able to play 720p and 1080p files. But for very large files of my Bluray rips (exceeding 15 gb) there were buffering issues.

But when I use my PS3(1 Gigabit network) as media player which is connected to the same tv all files play with out any issues.

hope this answers to your querry.

you need to check firewall exceptions, probably it is blocking the media streaming

You can check

1. windows fire wall
2. Anti virus fire wall
3. Router firewall

everything is fine i have no firewall windows firewall not blocking and router fw not an issue since it's working on the lappy. u din tell me the ps3 media server version u're using.

Well, I have eset nod32 av only. So, I am pretty sure that's not the issue.

Is it the same which come bundled with intel MOBO, it was giving me issue to with Squeezbox server, it used to reset f/w every time I reboot my machine.

So check out i/v firewall setting and try to pin the DLNA port number
ping 192.168.1.72:XXXX

or try netstat -a from command prompt it will list all the port it is listening to or active

I am sorry I did not get you.

As promised I am back after successfully DLNA connection with my Sony HX925.

Use Serviio DLNA media server as a DLNA server. There are numerous advantages of using servio, go through the feature list and you will notice the same. The important one is on the fly cross encoding and decoding.

The most important one is its very easy to setup...let me know if you face any difficulties.
