Picture settings recommendation:

1. Use 'Normal' or 'Cinema'.
2. Contrast = 30 to 35
3. Brightness = -5 to 0.

I am not am expert on 'which media player' as I never looked at any. But on various threads, Asus or WD is being recommended.

Most TV sets cant play these formats.. try the AVI format.. I think of all sets Toshiba supports the max formats.

I rarely download and have very little of downloaded stuff. The only stuff I have is some AVI (XVid) and a few .mkv's. Both play without any issues on my TV.

also please suggest colour, sharpness, colour mode settings, any idea on advance picture settings?
These settings are highly subjective and set to individual preferences and ambient settings. I watch my ST50 in dim lit conditions and I have not tinkered much except the following:

  1. I use "Normal" setting to watch TV/DTH while I use "True Cinema" to watch blu-ray's and DVD's.
  2. For "True Cinema", I have left all settings untouched except Constrat and Brightness. Contrast = 35 and Brightness = -3.
  3. Since Indian TV serials is amok with gaudy dressed women (and men), obscene/palace like homes, bright coloured surroundings, I have set the Colour setting in "Normal" mode to 47, colour tone to warm. But this is my preference.

Hi Kix,
I have completed 200hrs now  no signs of IR whatsoever, i followed the instructions to avoid IR. Now i want to explore picture settings, can you please help me with advanced picture settings?

Appreciate your help as always :)

Toshiba plays 28 formats as per spec sheet and to me it plays anything you throw to it. Specially very well with all downloaded 3d videos (mostly youtube) The only file it did n't play was due to 48frames/second.

If you have a good DVD player with HDMI-out and upscaling or a BDP, then you could download the calibration DVD from here: http://www.avsforum.com/t/948496/avs-hd-709-blu-ray-mp4-calibration

Burn the DVD and pop it into the DVDP/BDP and calibrate for black and white levels. That should be sufficient. The reason, I do not mention actual settings is because every TV is different and viewing conditions, ambient light also differs. I have a semi-dark room and my settings are as follows:

Contrast: 35
Brightness: -3 to -5
Rest: unchanged

BTW, keep following the anti-IR procedures and protection measures. Now that 200 hours are over, it means that the pixels have been aged sufficiently to avoid quick IR but that does not mean that you should go abandon all care.
