Hi,

I am looking at slowly configuring my Home Theater. I need some help in the same.

Usage:

TV 40%
Movies 40%
Music 20%

My Current thoughts.

I am thinking of buying the AVR from amazon.de.My Mother will be travelling to Berlin and hence she could get the AVR for me. I am thinking of the following AVRs - Denon 1513/1713 or the Yamaha 373/473.

Speaker; Now this is the place where I have the maximum confusion.

Here I have 2 options.

Option 1 Straight away buy a Wharfedale MS-100 or BA XS 5.1 and be happy.

Option 2 Buy a Cheap BS Like Sonodyne for now along with a Good Sub. Later buy another good Front speakers and move the Sonodyne to the rear. Is that feasible.

Please help me choose the best combination. Also where can i audition the Wharfedale MS-100 or BA XS 5.1 in Pune.

Sorry for the loooong and boring post.

What is your budget for sub? I recently heard Wharf 250 and it was good. You can also consider Velodyne subs.

option 2 is very good as you planned to move the bs to rears.
but imo you shd use speakers for rears made for rears like r ears from sonodyne or wharfedale rear sepakers.
and so invest in a good bs.never invest in a product about which you have a ready plan for replacement.if you are sure you will be happy ny sonodyne bs as rears....then cool.you can go ahead.
well by anyway i am not underestimating sonodyne bs as fronts.they are very good against the price.
and go for wooden separate fronts rather than satelite packages....if budget is not very strict
check wharfedale diamond,sonodyne...etc many more

prasanth I am also considering purchasing AVr for HT and was doing a comparison of Denon 1713 / Yamaha RX-V473.

Feature wise Yamaha V 473 seems to have better features (this is only comparing features only - sound purists should confirm the sound quality!)

- 4k passthrough seems to make future prrof and need not upgrade the AVR if 4K resolution is to be become reality after say 4-5 years

- better 3D data handling

By the time 4K becomes mainstream, you will be itching for AVR upgrade. So it doesn't make sense to go for AVRs with 4K support atleast for now. Consider it as a bonus feature.

I decided on the Denon 1713 over all Yamaha due to two features: 1. Flickr streaming, I have 40000 photos in my account... 2. Read on many sites that Audessey of Denon is better than YPAO of Yamaha.

I didnt consider the passthrough.. but would have liked to have upscaling.. but thats only in AVRs 10-15k INR costlier & was out of range.

I auditioned both, but couldnt detect much difference.. probably a choice of songs/movies..

Much like the OP I am putting Sonodyne 1501 BS to the fronts for the time being, and perhaps later will move them to the rears. My main consideration is music, so I am not too bothered about di-pole rear speakers for the authentic theatre feel.
But I will only move the sonodynes to the rear if I find more capable speakers for my music taste that pair better with my Yamaha 371. Which then again is needless to say I probably will given an unlimited budget, but at the price-point at which they are being offered Sonodynes are hard to beat.
