Hi Guys,

This is my first post to please bear with me.

I am having currently LG 42LD650 LCD model along with bluray play LG BD550. I was very happy with the setup untill i hit the issue with the my LCD. Which denied to power on. So after much of the fight with LG support finally i got them convinced to get my money back for entier set ( LCD TV + Bluray player). ;)

Now i am interested in owning my first 3D TV ( Which is what i dreamed of last year). Finally i got the money to think of buying it now. Following is my reuqierment

Size : 47 inch ( 42 also will do , but if buget permit i will prefer 47 inch)

Make : which ever is best ( personally like sony or lg)

Most importanant Buget : < 1Lac ( could not strech much)

Should have : HD TV (1080p), should play MKV HD content from USB, 3D support, All other standard features of latest technology, Wifi if possible not necessery etc.

Now i request all the TV geniues here to help me find the best model which i can short list & audition this weekend. I have read some of the post around this & found LG LW6500 or Panasonic plasma VT20 or so might be good but let know if any other things meet the expected fetures in given buget.

I like the some of the discussions on the post of user sam9s, madhavk8 & others about 3D Tv's. This the sole reason to get it enrolled to this site & start using it for my queries. hope some experts will look in to this post & give me some guidence.

Also would like to know to souce to download some 3D content so that i can carry them with me while auditioning the Televesion.

Many thanks in advance

For your budget there are a lot of options.

*Samsung 51D550(one of the best 3dtv's around)
*Panasonic 50ST30(better black levels than 51D550 and less reflection)
*Panasonic 50VT20(i would say now it is too late as it is a 2010 model)
*LG 47LW5700(though it is ridiculously priced i feel and picture quality does not comare to the plasmas)
*Samsung 46D6600(pretty good but still i feel plasmas have better 3D than led's)
*Sony 46EX720 (3D sucks, i have personally demoed; but for 2D it is amazing)

sony EX720, 3D doesnt sucks buddy :) I own it and I am quite impressed

sammy is quite good and I almost bought it its cheaper than sony as well, but some how when you closely see side by side with sony you will see the facial colour tones are not natural as it is with sony

anyways pls see for urself these all TVs in croma or anywhere you see then side by side and then compare

best of luck

sony ex720 loses sync even if you tilt your head a bit and creates lot of crosstalk unless you enable the motionflow feature which brings in motion interpolation and hence not being true 24p.

I have seen and demoed almost all of the available 3dtv's in the market!!

3D performance in ex720 can be good if you sit right in the middle in front of the tv and don't tilt your head and are ok with soap-opera effect !!

thats fine buddy, bcoz we dont watch 3D all the time, its 10-15% only 3D but LED TV should have good contrast and best of all natural color which I find sony gives that best for 2D

anyways its personal choice

I am a happy customer and shared my experience, btw which 3D TV you own ?

I agree that ex720 is totally amazing for 2D, very natural colors and deep blacks and very high light output.

I was almost about to buy the 46ex720 and had even bargained with the dealer to get it for 91k with 2 glasses but then because of my obsession for 3d changed my mind at the last moment and bought 51D550 plasma for 66.5k with 2 glasses.

that was my reason for choosing it too :)

sammy is far more cheaper though which is also very good

again its personal choice and preferences

best of luck new buyers and do share ur experiences :)

Thanks a lot guys for your opinions. That was pretty quick (As expected from this forum :) ).

I visited three different showrooms yesterday ( without checking the forum update :o). But i checked few models there as mentioned below.

Saturday Morning 11:00AM :

Went to Croma Showroom in Pimpri (Pune), Met one of the sales person with him i had a last deal for my LG 42LD650. First i had a audition of 55LW5700. Oh man i got blow away with the 3D content. I could not resist my self to have a 20 to 30 mins of pleasure watching the 3D "Tangled" & some LG 3D demo content. Since there were not much of a crowd early morning i could extend my audition. Then i asked him to show me the 47inch LW5700 & LW6500 They both were too good with either 3D, 2D to3D conversion & 2D contents. My 2D aavtar BDrip also looked awesome on both the sets.
After this i checked Sammy 42D6600 & Sony 46NX720. Let me tell you after comparing the these 4 TV sets, i would need to admit LG scored above sammy & Sony (My personal view). I agree to madhavk8 if we tilt our head during 3D playtime on NX720 it losses the focus & you get blur image ( might be a setting issue at the demo site). Sammy boy i did not like much.

After this just casually inquired about the pries for the all the models. But the chroma was interested in selling LG only i guess as they tried to downplay sony & Sammy sets.

i got a un-bargained price of LG 42LW5700 near about 75K which he said we will reduce it if i come for a deal & i also asked for any freebies with it. He asked me to wait till 26th Jan as per him good deals are coming on. For sony 46NX720 he quoted 85K ( also un-bargained). Being their old customer the sales person know how hard i bargain :D

Then i went on the E ZONE in chinchwad next to big cinemas. there auditioned all the three sets again & asked for the price to my surprise i got a price of 68K for 42LW5700 :licklips: but he said the deal is for today only & cash only. I got some impression of something cooking here & then the guy reveal there is new boxpack set which sold to one of their customer who wants it to return since the showroom dont want it to get it return he is finding the customer. He also promised to give a new billing on my name & 1 year standard warranty. Then i asked for sony 46NX720 for this he quoted 80K which was surprising to me. Not sure if this is a cheap deal. He also gave deal of 42LW5700 along with LG HT906 for 91K which i was not sure of.
So left the showroom.

Next was LG shoppe next to EZONE in same place. they did not entertained much but they claimed 75K for 42LW5700 & were not interested in selling much of LW6500.

Now i need to check the plasmas. I hear the power consumption is the issue with the plasma's how much is it true & how much is the difference while comparing it to LCD/LED. Also if you could give a overall diffrence between plasmas & LCD/LED. I know there is lots of articles for this but best is to get it from the owners perspective :)

I am thinking of going for a bigger size 50/51' or so & i think plasma will permit that comparing my budget .. what say guys .....

If picture quility is good along with 3D & standard features which i mentioned in my first post are present in plasmas i would not mind go for plasma. but currently i have been got the impression that people prefer led/lcd over plasmas not sure for a reason other than power consumption. let me know if there is any other reason.

I will be visiting the showrooms next weekend now ..as you know being a ITian it whole lot of work in the weekday but will be checking the forum for the valuable feedback to select the models for next set of audition.

Thanks a lot !

Check out the 51D550 plasma. It is very very good and also great value for money :) . I suggest you audition that also.

hi mahesh_jd,

well my reply has nothing much to do with the choice of TV you want to buy.but just based on my recent experience wanted to point it out to you- doesn't matter what brand you buy, please get extended warranty for at least 3 years (longer the better). the engineer from samsung who visited me for fixing my TV said most the the LCD/LED/Plasma (3D/2D) panel circuits last not more than 3-4 years on normal TV watching times (he has experience of about 10 yrs in this field). especially where there is power cut and voltage fluctuations. and once its gone you will have to change the whole panel itself rather than changing the circuit only...which costs about 2/3 the price the TV itself.

Croma stores generally do offer extended warranties.

another suggestion, when i was auditioning 3D tv sets (just TP at Vijay sales), i found the LG's passive 3D tech to be better- 1) the glasses are lighter, cheaper and more comfortable 2) field range of view seemed wider than sony/samsung for 3D watching.

cheers

Except LG with passive glasses, all other TVs give you severe headache with just 30 mts of watching 3D. On LG, you can tolerate it for at least 1 hour. Check their (LG) latest LED series. They are very good even for watching 2D.

That is not true dude

There is a hell of difference between active shutter 3D LED and active shutter 3D Plasmas. 3D Plasmas give great 3D with active shutter glasses and do not give headache and eye strain for the most part !!!

Especially Samsung and Panasonic 2011 3D plasmas are evolved to an extent where there is no eye strain after even hours of watching 3D !!!

I own a Samsung 51D550 3D plasma and have watched a lot of full length 3D movies and also played games like assassins creed revelations, brotherhood etc for hours at end with no major problems !!!

I really got interested in plasma now ... with 50" in my budget :licklips:
plus it has some awesome picture quality & black levels. more natural PQ then LED/LCD as per the threads i have read on the net.

Please some of the best models which i can audition. one definitely is Sammy 51D550 as suggested by madhavk8. Any other models ?

Also somebody know the showroom in pune where i can get Panasonic & samsung plasma models for audition.

If you are interested in plasma you have Samsung 51D550, Panasonic 50ST30 and also Panasonic 50VT20( but i would say no cause it is a 2010 model and mostly display pieces are available), also LG 50PZ550 and 50PZ850(but i dont know much about lg PQ and other details)

My personal opinion is go for Samsung 51D550 as it has amazing 3D with almost no crosstalk and natural colors and also has light and very cheap bluetooth glasses with no sync problems. Also 51D550 is one of the only plasma in the market to have LED like light output i.e brightness which makes a lot of difference while watching 3D.It also has great usb support for almost all codecs and all devices including ntfs hard disks. It has very good SD upscaling processor which after proper calibration can make even cable tv seem very good.

51D550 is one of the most practical 3dtv's in the market and is available for around 62-63 k now with 2 3d glasses !!!

Tv's simply put out advertisement as 300hz 400hz or 400cmr, 800cmr etc but the real refresh rate is only 120hz or 240hz(only in very high end models).

120hz refresh rate is good enough to display all kinds of content. 51D550 handles motion in both 2D and 3D very well and there is nothing to really worry about.

Also there is an additional mode called cinemasmooth with hdmi signals which run the panel at 96hz which brings true 24p cinema motion.

well, you would agree or not, but for bigger screen motion hertz matters a lot for smoother action/racing scenes.

anyways again these are personal choices, if you are happy with it then its good ...

I have auditioned panna ST30 & VT20 at showroom in banner. They both were good in terms of PQ .. somehow the sales person could not get the THX mode active on VT 20 while paying 3D content. not sure if it is supported on playing 3D contents. one thing which i notice that my hdd (320GB) got dected on VT 20 but could not play any contents out of it .. not sure if this is a limitation on VT20 ... but i 8GB pen drive from the sales person did worked well. Same hdd was working fine on ST30 model. Following are the prices quoted.

VT20 : 79K (2 glasses, keyboard)
ST30 : 103K

i know which is high as per the threads i read about these models. need to find some other places to see if they come down on price.

By meantime i will be auditioning the Sammy 50D550 today. do you body know where i can get the demo of this model in pimpri-chinchwad, aundh etc in pune.

anybody has bought this model recently if they can share their prices & if any freebies.

The 3D experience has been awesome with my PS51D550....Plasmas give you a better experience in 3D.
