Was looking for a 42" for my hall but decided to go with a 50" instead, following the policy of bigger is better :ohyeah:

now ive finalised it to the PS50C6500 for 67.5k, the hifivision exclusive offer or the Panasonic TH-P50U20D for 68.5k

reason am considering the panasonic as of now is because it offers 3 years warranty as against 1 year of samsung, and 70k on a tv is a big investment.

Unfortunately vaibhav from JD electronics isint able to offer any extended warranty on the samsung and hence am a bit concerned.

Is it possible to get some kind of third party insurance for these things? if so, approx cost for the same would be helpful

PS: with the P42X20D for 35k, maybe I should get two 42"s or 1 42" and invest the remaining cash on an AVR :D

your inputs are much appreciated,
TIA.

I will recommend Panasonic TH-P50U20D. Samsung products (tv panels in general) are notorious for going bad shortly after the warranty period. I have suffered quite a bit at the hands of samsung and have taken wow not to venture in it any further.

I recently bought a Panasonic 50V20D and am truly bowled over by its performance both in SD and HD. The other model U20D too is supposed to be at par. Remember 3 year warranty is always a positive.

Can you please share your experience in this regard?

Have you run all the initial Burn-in slides to season the TV?

The new gen plasmas dont need these I guess may be first 200 hours keep the brightness, contrast to half and run the TV, then you shld be all set. I dont think burn-in and IR is major problem here..... And fading blacks over 5 years .. Hey 5 years of great picture is more than good I guess... But I feel somewhere panny shld make the plasmas lil light weight.... :)

I am in total agreement 50V20 rocks -MaheshN How much did you get this one for I am still in the bargaining mode - :)

@Rave: U can't go wrong with either IMHO mate....both are awesome VFM products. Also, getting 42" might make u uneasy after a few days since u have already seen a 50" one, if u are anything like me :D U will feel sorry for going the lower sized path one day or other- hell, even 50" seems small after the first 2 days of usage, haha.

Its easier to make a decision when u see both sizes in working side-by-side and the real estate u gain from going for the 50" models. But, at the end of the day, its ur money and u have to decide how to spend it. :)

Also, are u Wajahat by any chance?

Regards

Imrahn

Apart from light weight they should also try to make them more power efficient. I checked the 50U20D set and it is rated at 450W. Considered in Eco mode this comes down to min 350W then for a 10 hr per day run the monthly watt-hour consumption is 30x10x350=105000 Watt-Hour which is 105 units of power that will cost around 550 rupees a month and on yearly basis it will be approx 6.5K INR. If I look at a 5 yr projection then this comes to a around 32K INR and that money if you add to the price of a 50U20D it will touch if not exceed the price of BRAVIA 46EX710 LED version. So am trying to judge if this calculation is worth noting for the PQ diff of the plasma and the LED.

Thats why my next will be LED ... After I get my refund from samsung .... :) Specially with lot of cricket and powercuts ahead of this season...

Rave,
Please check my calculation in post#7 of this thread regarding power requirement of a 50inch plasma. The cash that you are saving have to be invested behind power bills otherwise.

Cant compare c6500 to u20d as the former is better in everything.

If you consider v20 then it is different cause you will get better blacks than c6500 but again c6500 has a non grainy picture unlike the v20.

I would strongly suggest not to buy the 'Panasonic TH-P50U20D', which is a total rip off product. First of all it is not TRUE full HD (1920x1080). The Samsung 50C6500 is superior in almost all aspects and at a price of Rs. 67,500 it is a steal.

Got the 50v20d for Rs. 97,000 from Delhi. I will always prefer to go for a flat panel that comes with 3 year warranty than the one that comes with the standard 1 year warranty. I have been on the receiving end in my past purchases of samsung flat panel T.Vs and LCD monitor so will strongly caution anyone against samsung. You can read all about my ordeal here. Also note that the after sales service of samsung is unimaginably poor. They listen to the customer only if consumer court case is filed against the company.

I have not used any burn-in images with v20d.

After much consideration, Am inclining towards the Philips 46FLP5505 LCD for 54k @ reliance with 4 years warranty from Philips, will be taking some media with me today to have a proper demo before buying

^ Samsung customer service has been the exact opposite to me(very good).

In-fact i got a call within an hour of me writing a feed back in their website and they listened to by suggestion about firmwares. When my relative has a problem with his LED-LCD tv they replaced it without any delay.

I would say all consumer brands can be good for some and bad for others, i sure people will have horrible stories with all the consumer brands in India.

Are you really sure Panasonic offers 3 years replacement warranty?

There is no doubt Panasonic V,Vt 20 is an excellent tv and so is Samsung C6500 and 7000.

One quick question, I see on the specs of Panasonic V20 vs U20 that the former says 1080 lines of Moving Picture Resolution which is 900 in the later. Can anyone explain me what is this difference?

Also what would be the equivalent lines in LG 50pk550 or SAMSUNG 50c550 or 50c450?

Between the U20 and V20 here is the explanation i got from the internet:

900 lines is just referring to an older generation plasma tech. The newest is NeoPDP and those are advertised with 1080 lines; but this has no bearing on the number of pixels produced per frame or the image resolution. If I were you I'd get the NeoPDP based panel advertised as 1080 lines due to the better panel, not necessarily the "motion resolution".

I have also got this but wondering is this is justa marketing ctegorization of the Panasonic only models or the same applies to the LG and SAMSUNG Plasma models as well so that we can compare on this features between brands

Same applies to plasma's of all brands, Samsung advertises certain plasma with "1080p Full HD Motion" and others it doesn't.

Also implementation of the 1080 lines moving resolution is not perfected by any manufacturer yet.

If you plan to get the Panasonic then stick to v20 otherwise get the Samsung C6500.

Which store did you buy your 50v20d from? I've been looking for a good deal on this model but no dealer comes below 1.17 lacs!!

Order your Rega Turntables & Amplifiers from HiFiMART.com - India's reputed online dealer.
