Hi All,

I have made my mind for 50" plasma TV...But have some confusions and your inputs will help me in deciding.

1) My Viewing distance is around 12 to 14 Feet....
2) Maximum utilization will be in TV programs only...Sometime movies and sports. (No gaming as of now)
3) Would also like to use TV for watching videos/movies through internet.
4) USB Support required ...but not mandatory ...since have seagate media player.
5) 3d Not required
6) Source would be Tata Sky HD (Will be buying along with TV....Would appreciate in case other company have something better to offer than Tata Sky)
7) Have got Onkyo 808 and wharfedale speakers and thus sound will be through AVR only and hence TV sound doesnt make any difference)

I have auditioned LG 50PT560 and Panasonic 50X30D....but both at different location...so could not able to identify any difference in PQ...Both seems to be good on HD content....

Based on above parameters, need to know which one to buy... Full HD or HD ready...Which model is good.....

Also, since all the channels are not HD as of now, so how will be the PQ with SD channels

Budget Around 55K (+/- 2/3K)

Planning to buy this by Tommorow or Max Sunday..

Regards
Amit

Your best bet is 720p samsung.
Get the 51D490.
First HD 3D TV for everyone - PS51D490A1 - Plasma TV - Television | SAMSUNG

More inputs.
LG does not look good in the dark. The panels are relatively bad. Very very glary screen. Don't go for this. (Or I would say don't FALL for this)

Panasonic has excellent blacks. Colour reproduction and SD scaling is not as good as samsung. If your viewing habit is >50% HD, then go for this.

Samsung has great blacks but still behind panasonic. Very very good image processor. SD upscaling will be very good. Colours are great too. USB playback is good and supports HD. If your usage will be >50% SD, just go for this eyes closed.

Thanks Blasto...

kindly, let me know, what would be the best price for this model......And this seems to be a 3d tv.....so, let me know 2d performance on this tv pls
Moreover, which HD DTH should i go with....as of now have got tata sky sd setup box...will upgrade with HD box...

hi amit,

im happy you have decided to go for plasma and not LCD/LED!!! good choice.
with 12-14ft you can easily watch 1080p HD on a 65inch tv!!! looking at your budget, I would sincerely request you to stretch it a bit. The reason being I would like you to get one of the best 2D tv's in the market and the best 2D tv of 2010..............the Panasonic 50V20. you have to demo the tv to actually see how amazing it performs. There aren't many plasmas in the same price range that is comparable to this tv. If you have the budget blindly go for it.

Panasonic has revolutionized plasma technology with its neo pdp panels taking picture quality to another level. Unfortunately only V,S,G series come with this amazing panel. Which is why I would strongly recommend you to go with the V20 or any of the S.G series if you can source them.

If budget is a constraint then suggest to go with the samsung. They are a lot better than the pan entry level performers. Also, please demo any tv thoroughly you want to buy under low ambient lighting..............remember plasmas perform BEST under low light!!!

Thanks Aakashr,

I agree with u fully ...infact I was browsing our forum for last 2hrs and have found max number of people appreciating pana plasma.....*hence, have decided that I will spent some more days in auditioning and will decide after that.....will be visiting pana showroom tomm...
As far as budget is concern, I can extend it to 60K max..pls suggest me the best options available in this price band....also should I go with best 42" plasma or 50" plasma of may be tier 2 level. ??????

you may also consider the 50U30 considering the viewing distance you have. This is a full HD plasma.

@amit21

you can check out the 42gt20d.though its a 42 inch tv its got the neo-pdp and infinite black filter which is very good. its available for 50k in Bangalore!:licklips: dont know whats the price where you stay?
if u really need a 50 incher than you can check out the 50u30 or the Samsung 51d550? though you will have to stretch your budget!
i have demoed both the 50x30and 43d490,the x30 plasma suffers from more reflections than a 43d490!
i suggest you demo all the tv's that fit in your budget! take some of your favorite movies and see how it looks on different tv's!

If it is a panasonic plasma, get the one with the neo pdp.
Only 42GT20 comes for your budget. It is a 3D plasma with 2 glasses.

There is 50U30 but again, it is not neopdp.

The least you can get is the 50VT20 for 74k with 3D glasses in bangalore.

Hi Everyone............
I am planning to book 50VT20 today ...

I have visited Tata Croma in Ahmedabad....without any bargain the price told was 85K with Keyboard.......but when negotiated the price came down to 76K with keyboard.........after this when i told the sales guy that this model is being sold in other locations @ 75K with keyboard+ 2 glass+scratch card+tata sky hd box......he was surprised and said "it is not possible but will still try to crosscheck with my boss in mumbai"....................After 15Min he came back and said best price of 75K with all everything mentioned above but with only 1 glass.......

Apart from this there is cash back offer on ICICI for max up to 1000/- as cash back....

So effectively the deal is 74K here in Ahmedabad with keyboard, 1glass, scratch card, tata sky HD setup box......

What do you think guys.....with 1 glass ? Also let me know, am i missing any freebies....i am assuming that HDMI cable will be inside the TV box only....!!!!!!

I dont know about ahmedabad but people are getting 2 glasses for 75k elsewhere. I got it for 80k with 2 glasses and no tata sky or keyboard. Still the offer you got is very good.

BTW, you have mentioned that your main use is TV programs (I assuem SD). This TV is not the best for SD. Samsung 51D550/51D490 is. They are sold at 67k and 57k respectively I suppose. This TV is awesome for HD though.

Ya blasto...will be mainly using it for SD content....but considering that most of the channels will be HD sooner or later...i am planning for this option.
But let me know, will it be worst than what i am watching on my pana 29" CRT ?

Fair enough. Go ahead.

Yes. Even the samsung will be worse than the CRTs.
By getting any HD TV, you cannot get any better SD picture than the CRTs.
Samsung gives 90% of PQ as your CRT
VT20 gives maybe 75% of PQ as your CRT for SD.

By SD, I mean DTH telecast.

I am using regular cable with a STB , very satisfied with the d550 for SD/HD content. Just need to control the reflections.

Also, are HDMI cables included with the plasma set ???? Pls clarify

No..
It is included with DVD/Bluray players though.
Also with HD DTH connection you may get..

In short, all devices you would connect to the TV with HDMI cable, come with HDMI cable.
