Dear All,

First of all thanks for supporting me with your valuable comments and guidance and last time as may be you aware that I bought Sony's IV-300 HTiB for my home and now I am totally fed up with that even the sound output is not uptomark (I wish I followed the gurus for not purchasing the same:sad:), Ok so now I am planning to sell the same and purchasing a new one.

Lets come to budget: well currently my budget is approx 55,000 or below this includes Pioneer's BDP-180 Blu-ray player.

Selections: Well frankly say i have not selected any yet but I am thinking of Pioneer's HTP-RS49.

Purpose: My purpose is basically for 70% Music (includes 5.1 Music Videos - Hindi & Punjabi, 1080P / 720P Music Videos - Punjabi) & 30% Movies.

Player - Pioneer BDP 180 Blu ray player (any other suggestions will be preferred)

Connectivity: My brother uses his Phone's Bluetooth to play the songs, Me uses Hard Disk or USB PD to play the videos or movies

Purchase time: well it depends on me if i will get satisfaction on the product suggested by Gurus then will gonna purchase that immediately other wise i have 2-3 months time as I am travelling to Singapore for some business trip will be back after 1.5 months.

Your valuable comments and suggestions will help me, as you all are very experienced in this and I am totally beginner.

Regards
Sam

Why blu ray player when you want bluetooth and USB only? Look into media player or HTPC. Plenty of information on that here.

Hi Sam,
First of all Sony IV300 was never a good choice, it used chip based amplification. Me too was anxious to get this but after reading the feedback/suggestion, i changed my mind. Good you made your mind for AVR based setup too.

In the budget you said, might want to see what i bought couple of months back. Excellent sound quality, value for money & best fit in budget. Here is my thread link.

As you said, the primary source to your music/movies will be HDD then why you want to go for Pioneer BDP 180?? Its an excellent product compare to others but any specific reason to go with this? I was also dying to buy this BDP but since last 2 months the price for this has raised like hell.. also the availability is the concern. People are selling US imported BDP (which region A) for 16k with no warranty. Last week i bought Philips BDP 2190 @5900 from Amazon.in which is FHD, 1080 Upscaling, 3D & supports all surround formats. None of product is Wi-Fi enabled as i have 2 laptops, 2 mobiles to access internet on. It would have been simply a waste of money for me as i won't be using all those features what Pione BDP offers.
Again, if you music/movie source is majorly HDD then go for a lower price BDP as it serves the same as the higher end models except the Internet.. No compromise in terms of quality for sound & picture :)
These are high-end products, you will have to use disc in these or else might face issues related to the reader etc in some time. One of the Pioneer engineer advised me not to go with these high-end models if the usage of disc is going to be very less.

I am watch all downloaded movies (720/1080) with Dolby Digital/DTS sound & I'm more then satisfied.:yahoo: :yahoo: :yahoo: :yahoo: :yahoo: :yahoo: :yahoo:

Pioneer HPT 49 - Since i made my mind for new HT in Sep last year, my first preference was Pioneer HTP (specifically Todoroki speakers) but taking couple of demo i changed my mind.. The build quality of Todoroki speakers are not that worth for what you will spend buying them & also the output quality.

I'm suggesting you to take reference from my setup as i did a research for more then 3 months & took 7 demos before i purchased any of these.

Hope this will help you to conclude you on something. If you make your mind, do share your experience with us :)

Thanks,
Sachin.

under 60k, i would suggest u go with 2speakers and an avr, if ur after fs look for pioneer Andrew jones, or jamo 426 pioneer 830 as ur receiver

Thank you so much man but according to your suggestion the budget will go higher to approx 70K and currently my budget is only 50-55K . so any other suggestions regarding my request.

This is age old error that all of us have done and that's why you shouldn't!

DO NOT go for an AVR based setup if your primary requirement is music. Overkill, expensive and for the price you would get lower than expected sound quality.

1. Invest in a nice pair of speakers (your budget should stop you at bookshelves), pair it with a good integrated stereo amp and plug your HDD directly into the amp's USB port.

2. Your choice of speakers should be a used KEF Q300 or a B&W 685 and pair it with a NAD, Rotel, Marantz amp. NAD amps are great value for money and come with toroidal transformer (geeky stuff, simply means great sounding power source). Same goes with Marantz. You would be able to get a good used amp in the classifieds section here. Do share the model# on this forum before you buy.

3. DO NOT cringe on buying good speakers. Nicely cared for used speakers are always as good as new and hold their value for years and years together. Nothing much has changed in speaker technology in the last 50 years or so.

4. Next add a media player or a sub-woofer. Whichever you need first. A media player can be directly connected to your TV with its audio out into your amp. You still do not need an AVR.

5. Now on the expansion front. If video bug itches you; buy an AVR later and either sell off your stereo amp or use it as a standalone amp in conjunction with your AVR. Add a center channel speaker and surrounds (rear speakers) as you wish.

Moral of the story, build your appetite in bite-sizes. You would be able to spend judiciously, incrementally and on the right gear.

Dear experts:
need some guidance on investing in an AVR + 5.1 speaker system. Have gone thro several posts in this forum for the past several weeks.
This is kind of an investment for the next 5+ years. Usage will be 60% music (from HDD) and 40% movies (primarily from my Samsung LED TV).
Am residing in Hyderabad now, and I understand, support for Yamaha is good, and not so for Pioneer or Denon. Have zeroed in on Yamaha RX-v479 with Polk Audio TL1600 Speaker system, after visiting a Yamaha dealer. [plan to visit Reliance Digital tomorrow]. Is this a good combo? My employer will be reimbursing the cost, and have to buy new equipment only. Budget is around 70K, but as per MRP, the cost of my selection comes to 87K. Your valuable suggestions / alternatives please.

Thanks a ton in advance!

Yamaha YTH 299.. ~35k.. Much better then Pioneer HTiB

Is YHT 299 still available? If so then Is Reliance Digital best option for this?

In future if want to upgrade my Sub & Speakers as well,Because I forsee to buy Polk Audio sub including Center Speakers + Fronts in near future. so it possible to upgrade in this system.

Or any higher model from 299 ??

YHT 299 is a good HTiB for its price range. The future upgradation may be possible ,only thing you need check the power output per channel (watts) of the AVR and the recommended amplifier power (watts) of the speakers and its nominal impedance values which you are going to buy in future.
For the subwoofer since it is active ,it can have its own range but should gel with speakers you will update in future.

As you said you have more preference on music . If budget permits ,it is better to invest in a good AVR with a pair of front speakers, later you can build it step by step.
Before making the purchase ,please have a audition for which you have shortlisted and decide based on your taste.

Yes! its available @35k.. refer below links. You can very well interchange the speakers but do take care of the per channel power input for each speaker.. I believe the AVR in YTH 299 can produce a max power of 135W per channel @6 Ohms so ensure you consider this while changing the speakers in future..

Thanks for your quick response i have demoed the yht 299 and yht 2910 & found that yht2910's recivers is equipped with more features which includes Dolby Atmos etc.

Pls. reply on this as i am planning for YHT2910 for 40K only and YHT 299 is in 35K, so only spending 5K more i am getting latest technology. any comments on it?

Hi

If you are going to use the latest technology / features of the AVR then go for it...else does not make sense spending 5k more.....rather you ensure that the speaker wires (OFC) and HDMI cables are good and high quality

I agree.. Though the AVR in YTH2910 is Atmos enabled... The speaker are not.. Go for YTH299..

Are you sure YHT2910 supports Dolby Atmos ? I checked on Yamaha India's website and it shows support for Dolby TrueHD and DTS HD only (no Dolby Atmos or DTS:X)

The speakers are not ???? what does this means Sachin Ji :o :o
Dolby Atmos needs extra height/ceiling speakers. For Example: A 5.1.2 Atmos setup will have a regular 5.1 setup PLUS 2 height/ceiling speakers. So effectively, your AV receiver would be driving 8 channels(2 Front, 1 Center, 2 Surround, 2 height and 1 subwoofer)
