Need Recommendatons for BR player

im currently using a borrowed WDTV Live. I think it has internet radio.. Havn't tried it to be honest . Has quite a few internet media options. Just used YouTube as of now. Not sure if the others work in India . I know Pandora doesnt.
Currently its the cheapest media player ( abt 5.5k) . Ive yet to find a reason to get a more expensive one.

If I'm correct your WDTV live will say that Internet radio is for people outside US..

i am so confused with buying a blu-ray plus hd player which can play all possible codecs. this forum has exhaustive info but still confused.

All BD players are the same if you play only BD. The decoded stream of the disc is exactly same for all Blu-ray player ever made. Where Oppo players make a difference is the later post processing stages. For example, the Noise reduction and compression reduction, de-interlacing of 1080i60 content (mostly concert videos and some TV programs). The audio DAC in good AV receivers are comparable with Oppo BD-93 provided you output bitstream through HDMI.
But if you want to upscale DVD or handle difficult material (1080i contents mentioned) or play lot of different contents, I don't think there exists a better player than BDP-93. Also for network playback Oppo automatically changes its processing based on the contents which is rare in BD players. How do you know all this because the Qdeo chip that went in the player has 5 years of my blood and sweat :)

Buy blu-ray player and hd media player separately. Bu-ray players are not suitable for playing different types of downloaded video files. You will have to convert the files sometimes.

Not true, as have been pointed out before some BD players such as Oppo play almost all format under the sun. Media players can be thought of as Blu ray player with out the optical drive.
I am not sure what else do you need from a player where it says,
"Additional Disc & Media Formats - Additional disc and file formats, such as DVD, audio CD, HDCD, Kodak Picture CD, AVCHD, MP4, DivX, DivX Plus HD, MKV, FLAC, WAV and other audio/video/picture files on recorded discs, USB or eSATA drives can be played back on the BDP-93."

Can I know how much does the Oppo cost? And where to buy in Mumbai? I am in town next few days and was about to buy the new Sony bdp 380.

I think you will need to import it from amazon etc. The price is very high > 40K. You will also need to spend additional for region free kit.

Thanks for your quick response. Its way over my budget :) i think i will rather go with the new Sony BDP 380. Its about 9000/-. But one suggestion requested - DOES it make sense to spend 6000 more and future proof oneself with the Sony BDP 480? Basically it has built in wifi and can play 3d content. Isit worth to upgrade to a 3d player without much content avaliable?

Do you have a 3d tv or intend to buy one in near future? If not why spend money for some features that you won't use. I will suggest you to buy a region free player instead.

You can look at panasonic bd players either at the grey market or imported and get a region free mod kit. May work out VFM and fairly good quality ones. Should come to around 10-12k.

I bought recently panasonic bdt 110 from amazon for $120 shipped and got it to india myself, bought a step down transformer and voila,PQ is amazing for BD playback, havn't tried 3d yet since i dont have a 3d tv,plays mkv with dts from usb drive, couldn't detect my hdd though, also plays files from my panasonic camcorder

Were you able to make it region free for DVD?

I dont have any dvd collection nor do i intent to buy any,i just got it for region A blu ray playback, nothing else,3d is a bonus,u can make it region free using a "Enhanced firmware",but you need to make a donation which seems fair for the developers.the player does not support ntfs drives.

Hmm...I was looking for single player which could play region A Blu Rays, all region DVDs (since I have already got many lying around bought from diff sources--amazon uk us etc..) and 3D.
Guess I'll have to keep 2 players...

It seems it is very difficult to get the enhanced firmware (apparently they are very strict as to whom they provide the firmware to) according to some forums on the net
