Hello All

My vinyl system currently is a Rega RP1 (with an upgraded stylus -- Ortofon OM30) played through an integrated amplifier (Denon PMA 1500AE), which in turn is connected to a pair of KEF Q7 floorstanders

I am assuming investing in a phono stage will give me much improved audio output vis-a-vis the in-built phono stage in my Denon Amp. Am I right ?? I have read that my amp's phono stage is supposed to be quite good

Please suggest the "most suitable" phono stage given my set-up. I don't mind investing a little more than needed, i.e. not an issue if the suggested phono stage is bordering overkill territory !! My aim is to come as close as I can to "the best sound" I can enjoy from my RP1 for the next few years before I am bitten by the "upgrade bug"

Cheers

Try the iFi Phono - it's a revelation.

I believe they have an Indian dealer now, but can't vouch for the information below (posted by another FM):

Thanks G401Fan. Spoke to Santosh Prabhu. Just curious, while I have also read glowing reviews about the iFi phono, have you been able to demo/hear it at work ?

Another question -- Assuming I would like to upgrade a TT in Rega RP6 / Clearaudio Concept territory, would the iFi phono do justice as a phono stage ?

:signthankspin:

I've been using the iFi Phono for the past year and a half, hence the recommendation.

It's up there with much costlier models - so say many of the 'net reviews (mine own experience of higher end phonostages is limited) , so it should do just fine with the upgrades in TT/cartridges that you may have in mind.

iFi is available at Sound By Design, Delhi.

He will reply very quickly to any email.
I was quoted Rs 31,170 for the phono stage a few days back.

Hi Naturelover

So, are you proceeding with the ifi phono ? Thanks for the contact details

Will be more expensive but you can't go wrong with the Ray Samuels Nighthawk F117. Tiny, punching way above its price band, battery powered, silent. Many happy users on the forum.

Not yet, need to sort out some other issues first.
You could listen to the Trigon phonos at The Listening Room. Someone on the forum has praised the Trigon Advance.

I am using iphono and it has made a whole lot of difference to my listening pleasure. It's got features many very high end phono stages have. Especially good for those with several cartridges or players.

Good to know that you are very happy with the iFi phono. Do you believe it will do justice to a TT in the Rega RP8 league, were I to upgrade to one in the next 2-3 years ?

RP 8 may not have the luxury of changing cartridge that easily. Even then, iphono is a good phono stage should you decide to upgrade cartridges with different loading capacities which cannot be accurately set on many other phono stages

What prompted you to mention changing cartridges and why do you say one may not be able to do that ? I am asking because I just asked whether the iFi phono would do justice to a TT like the RP 8

Why dont you try the much accliamed CNC phonostage . It is there in the DIY section and lot of FMs already have it.

Think I will !! Just spoke to another FM to a get second opinion

Your signature doesn't say you have one  Or is that you aren't into vinyls ??
