Hi

Currently my sister is in Jakarta and we are planning to buy an LED TV. I have shortlisted the below TVs based on budget etc.

Urgently need your advice on finalizing the TV :

1. LG 42" 42LV3500

2. Samsung 40" Series 5 D5500 Smart TV

http://www.flipkart....d5-8685e3500f8e

3. There was another Samsung same D5500 which is not a Smart TV and around 5000/- cheaper

4. Any other TV (SONY) - my budget can be extended upto 45k (from Jakarta)

Please let me know ASAP on how to decide and which to fix. There is a special offer on the TVs next weekend so I have to finalize it tonight and tell her.

Both of them dont have international warranty.

thanks I had considered that too but have heard that it is not able to recognize mkv format from hard disk....does it also have apps like the Samsung TV?

^ Thanks for the advice...do you own the LG one? Does it have better/comparable quality to the samsung one? My parents are a little reluctant going for LG so I am leaning towards the sammy at the moment

Hi yes it has apps like skype, facebook but i dont think any smart platform is very good right now and it will atleast take 1-2 years to make it better. Yes it doesnt support mkv but you can always buy a good media player for that. You should also check Panasonics led tvs. Panasonic tvs support mkv and they are smart tvs as well and the models are 42inch E3D(54000/-) and 42inch E30D(58000/-). I prefer Sony and Panasonic. Panasonic tvs are as good as Sony, Samsung and Lg if not better but due to poor marketing they are not very popular. Check the link.

KDL-40EX520 : EX520 Series : BRAVIA HD TV (LED & LCD) : Sony India
VIERA TH-L42E30D | Panasonic
VIERA TH-L42E3D | Panasonic

Thanks a lot for the thorough and detailed info...couple of things:

1. It was not possible to sway my parents from Samsung to LG so I dont think they will agree for buying Panasonic (I understand that the quality as you say is better and its just marketing)

2. I was thinking of going for Sony then since you have explained that it has a much better PQ

Couple of questions:

1. Is it possible to add something like Google TV (which has android) to the Sony TV?

2. Does the Sony TV have a panel lottery like the Samsung one....also can you link me to where I can read about the panel lottery for Sammy

3. How are the viewing angles on this TVs? Do they support angles upto atleast 40-45 degrees from the center?

IMHO, Its a complete waste of money to try and get a TV that plays MKV. Save the 10k in going for a non-smart TV and get a WDTV for 5k to play MKV and much more with better quality.

LG is a better option if you go into the 3d world as they have better technology. Otherwise the difference in LG and Samsung is minimal in normal LED TV's. I would go with the bigger screen as ever 2" makes a differnce to the viewing pleasure.

May2012 got my new Panny LED L42E30D. It looks stunningly awesome...
Tried USB playback.. just awesome... it pulled all the video formats. :yahoo:
confirmed with AVI, MKV... however mpg not supported. :)
Video - 9/10 Audio - 5/10
Unfortunately smiles down at the Audio..
Need to tweak the Bass and treble level to match with others. Also checked with the VproSurround thingy..
My friend has a LCD LG LK 430 - 42inches... Video - 7/10 Audio 8/10...
Amazing Audio from this chap.. no need of a Home Theatre :clapping:

About my panny.. need to try and tweak some functions to find its capabilities..

Hi,

I live in an area which is affected by noxious fumes from an open drain. These fumes cause malfunctioning in all electronic appliances including TV. Till now, I was surviving using a CRT unit but it's time to get it replaced. However, with companies doing away with CRTs, I am confused what is the safest replacement option?

Please can someone suggest which kind of television (LED/Plasma) would be the best option for me? Company/Price factors are neutral.

Both the models look quite good. but when it comes to compare the features and apps of the same, i think LG is much better than samsung. I am using LG LCD TV as per this moment and I am quite pleased with the Picture quality and sound of the same.

fumes will be bad for any electronic......hmm bad situation indeed bro..isnt it posible to close all windows and seal them of the tv room...

I tried sealing off the room to minimize any fumes affecting the TV but it doesn't help much.

I heard LEDs are a better option given some ceramic coating of the panels. Also, Samsung has come up with 2012 LED series which have triple protection including Humidity Protection.

Anyone got any suggestions?

You are worried about affects of noxious fumes to electronic equipment. What about humans?

What about humans?
:lol::lol:

actually his surroundings are with open drain etc.....its a real problem before buyinmg a expensive electrnic product....humans are most durable and auto mode stuffs.....no isues with that..just joking..both of you kix and jai..dont take it seriously;)

Since, Television is a necessity I have to buy one.

I inquired with a few dealers and they advised to go with a tv with good warranty. Upon further analysis, I found that Sony, LG are offering extended warranty of 2 years for 2K (approx).

However, I'm not sure which one should more durable? Or it could some other brand like Samsung/Panasonic or Sharp? Heard that Samsung and Panasonic are also offering extended warranty.

Also, Croma and Reliance Digital are offering extended warranty on any LED/LCD they sell. But I read mostly negative reviews about their ASS, so not sure about that.

Please help me with your expert opinion.
