Hi Guys,

I am Praveen from Pune, this is my very first post but I was going through discussions to get a hang of this space. All that I know by now is that there is a lot that I dont know so please dont mind if I ask anything obvious or unwise.

I currently have a 5.1(HTiB) of Sony make which was purchased 6-7 years back this still sounds decent but being an old system it lacks blue ray, USB, Bluetooth connectivity so I am planning an upgrade.

Looking for upgrade suggestions considering following.
1) System will be used primarily for music and sometimes for movies/TV.
2) I will need a Blu-ray player and USB, Bluetooth connectivity to play music/movies.
3) Dont mind a 2.1 system but prefer a system that can be upgraded to 5.1
4) Would like to reuse my Sony speakers if it is advisable.
5) Room area is around 300 sf feet.
6) Can purchase AVR from abroad(US/Middle East) if advisable.
7) Max budget for now is 50K, can go for 2.1 or use existing speakers

Thank you, hope I have not asked for too much in a post.

Cheers,
Praveen

Hi

Welcome.

With the budget in hand, you can go for entry level Yamaha 5.1 system (YHT199 / 299) which should come within 30k....a decent blu ray player will cost between 10 - 15 k depending on brand etc....

You need to audition various systems to get some basic idea of their capability, features and quality...

Most AVR models since 2015 have bluetooth and Airplay....you can check the models and see which fit your budget...

As for the speakers which you already have....those will be typically at 3ohms - 6 ohms load.....again depends on the model and may not blend well with the intended AVR being purchased...

If you are open to Pre owned stuff, you can look at For Sale by owner section on this site and also www.hifiads.com or even OLX

There are some good speakers, etc being sold....

Hi,

Thank you so much. I can drop the blu ray player and the idea of reusing my current speaker. Considering this can you suggest the best 5.1 AVR and 2.1(for now) speakers that is possible within this budget.

I may source the AVR from middle east if it is cheaper there.

PS: Not comfortable with used stuff.

Cheers,
Praveen

Those speakers may not do justice to a new AVR. You may consider an AVR like Yamaha rxv 483 for 40k plus a pair of bookshelves at 15-20k and then build up the rest over time

If you have PC/Laptop with HDMI output, they can help you most in-absence of bluray player..

Could you share the model # of Sony 5.1 HTIB..

Getting AVR from Europe/Middle East/Singapore/Malaysia would be best as they have 220V unit, also significantly cheaper than the prevailing rates here..

Thanks, I do have a PC/Laptop so will use that for now.

Great.. If that has HDMI out, all you need is mediaplyer like Kodi, with very simple settings to bit-stream to AVR..

Regarding the old speakers...not sure if they will do justice to the upgrade so will prefer new and better speakers.

If the speakers are 6 ohms/4ohms rated, then they can at-least do surround duty, until you have enough budget to upgrade..

I can source AVR from Quwait, please look at this link and let me know if these price are good https://www.xcite.com/tv-video/home-theaters/audio-video-receivers.html

I had bought my Onkyo AVR from Kuwait, from the same store, abt 4 years back.. They are authorised distributor for Onkyo.. So keep purchase bill safe so that you can approach Onkyo India for service in future..

For some reason, Onkyo prices in Kuwait are as cheaper as US (or) sometimes even cheaper, which comes with 220V..So no additional expense for STD.. At the same time Marantz is expensive there (Kuwait)..

If you don't want to go more than 5.1 then, Onkyo 373 (89 KD)..

If 7.1 AVR with Dolby Atmos / Dts X then either Onkyo 575 (129 KD) if you want single HDMI out (or) 676 (149 KD) for dual HDMI out..

Depending on whether you choose 5.1 (or) 7.1 AVR, you can also consider getting speakers from Xcite.. They are very cheap there..

Thank you so much, I checked their website but they have very limited options listed on their website, do they order on demand?

Suggest buying amp in India. Onkyo definitely voids warranty if not purchased from India. Hardware too is modified to suit Indian voltage fluctuations.
