Hi, yesterday my 12 year old Sony LCD's picture tube finally gave in and I don't think it can be repaired.. So looking to buy a new TV and came across some of the choices below:

https://www.amazon.in/OnePlus-Certified-Android-55Q1IN-1-Without/dp/B07W5QZQ45 - One Plus 55 inch

https://www.amazon.in/dp/B07TKC14R5...9Y2xpY2tSZWRpcmVjdCZkb05vdExvZ0NsaWNrPXRydWU= LG 55 inch

https://www.amazon.in/dp/B07NSN753Z...9Y2xpY2tSZWRpcmVjdCZkb05vdExvZ0NsaWNrPXRydWU= - Samsung 55 inch

Dont' want to spend crazy money on a 55 inch TV but need a good quality TV to last long with good picture quality.. Not crazy over the technical details of the picture quality.. Why is the One Plus more expensive than Samsung and LG and would be grateful if someone could suggest the best VFM 55 inch TV .. Not interested in the TCL, VU cheap TVs as they would offer no support in case something goes wrong...

Yes... I currently connect my laptop through HDMI to stream but would ideally like an in built solution.. I just bought a Firestick - the latest one and if you have an option for me to use a Firestick with a good budget TV, please share..

No budget TV in India can do HDR well; not even if you spend 60-70k for a 55-inch. Every new production by Netflix and Amazon, at least international ones, are in HDR, which is a bigger jump in picture quality than 4k, and it's here to stay. Few years from now, expect even sports to be broadcast in HDR.

Of course. things happen slowly in India, which is why the budget market in India is a scam. Outside you can get budget options from Vizio, TCL and Hisense that perform well thanks to full-array local dimming. You need that for HDR as blacks rise too much without it. Here they aren't available...yet. Cheapest you'll get is X950G or Q70R...close to one lac.

I'll suggest going cheap for now. Get a budget 55-inch with a VA panel under 30k. India's budget segment will also change soon. Hisense is entering this yet under their own brand. and hopefully they'll launch their good products. Keep the cheap one for a couple of years, and then buy a set that can actually do HDR.

In that case, Xiaomi seems the best bet to use with a decent sound bar added later...

Brands really don't matter in the budget segment. Just take one you like. What you should consider is whether you want an IPS panel or a VA panel. IPS panel will give you good viewing angles but bad native contrast of 1000:1. Really bad for anything apart from viewing with lights on. VA panels have better contrast with budget ones mostly being 4000:1, but their viewing angles are...not good. My preference is still VA panels, but you choose you poison.

Check your Sony TV yourself. It may be a minor fault for all you know.
I know for a fact that TVs are poised to make a major jump from mid 2020 onwards. How much of it will come to India is another question.
As an example I bought a used Panasonic Plasma 42 inches for Rs 10,000. Personal and transportation expenses Rs 2500. So a total of Rs 12,500.
Someone on the forum has got a lovely Panasonic on sale for Rs 15,000. Could be a good deal.

You can get either Iffalcon by TCL 55K31 (Flipkart) or VU cinema TV 55 inch (Amazon):

Rule of thumb-

I had added some (limited) observations on a few brands here
You may find it useful

Already did sir and hence decided more or less on the Xiaomi 55 inch...
Its not a bad TV at all but it has its quirks - worst being the startup time (which is probably less than a minute but feels like an eternity)
The OP TV wasn't out when I had brought the Mi so something else you may want to take a look at

One Plus is double the price of the Mi TV.. Did not know that the start up time is a minute for Mi but thanks for letting me know... A minute every day to save 35K is not a deal breaker for me... I am aware that the sound quality of Mi is not very good but I can always add a sound bar later..

Would be grateful if you could let me know other quirks as well of the Mi TV for me to make an informed decision...
I don't use the smart tv features on the set and so won't be able to tell you about them - what i did notice is that the UI isn't particularly fast or well designed leading me to believe that streaming directly on the TV may not be a very pleasant experience
Since you do have a 4k firestick , that should be a non-issue

The initial firmware versions had an issue with TV always starting in its own home screen rather than staying on the last selected input - which is important if you intend to keep it on say HDMI 1 all the time
Subsequent updates seem to have fixed it but you do get thrown back to the silly MI launch screen every once in a while when you start the TV - This is more of a minor pain though

Startup time remains an issue - but i think thats true for all android TVs - I wish there was a setting to allow TV to switch on directly and immediately into a pre-selected input mode

More importantly, don't expect good HDR - SDR PQ is bright and punchy with good contrast though but HDR will look pale unless the room is really dark- this is probably true for all TVs but the top end Samsung/Sony / LG etc.

If this help sway your decision, SDR video quality is excellent with very little to differentiate it from top tier sets.
I also think the set does switch to 24hz refresh rates (although I will need to validate) - this is important if you intend to watch movies and dislike the slight judder seen in motion scenes when you try play 24hz source material on a display running at 50 or 60hz

Was in a Similar situation last Diwali, after researching a lot, going for cheaper 4k TV currently seemed like a good option. So I went ahead with Ifflacon K31(30k) with 3yr warranty.
Reasonably quick, Simple and Clean interface, does 4k and HD brilliantly but for Standard Definition it doesn't do justice. HDR is available with good viewing angles. Nothing really to complain about, I have a Firetv spare, but never actually needed it with this TV. This is another good option.

Will check out Iffalcon as well.. I mainly intend to view 5-6 HD channels on Tatasky and watch Netflix and Amazon prime.. Maybe some downloaded movies in blue ray, HD format.. it's a toss up between Xiaomi and Iffalcon thrn.

I'm sorry, but I gotta contradict and be an a$$...again. If you think that K31 has good viewing angles, then you don't know enough about viewing angles. You aren't able to recognize color and gamma shift. Period.

P.S.- I have an Iffalcon TV myself. Not that that matters. VA panels are all similar unless there's a wide angle filter.
