Hi everyone!
Just joined this site. I am I am a total newbie to the high end AV scene. Till today I got by with an OLD OLD :o AKAI speaker set connected to my comp. I am planning to go in for a decent HTiB. My budget is about 30K or so.

My limitations....

1. It has to be one which I can pack and set up every two years, being in the IAF.

2. It should perform reasonably in different rooms....sizes/acoustics etc. again coz I shift every now and then.

3. This is the start of a Home Theater system. Will connect my medium range desktop to it and watch movies and hear mp3s. Occasional CDs.

4. Budget around 30K. Can stretch it either way, though would prefer not to.

Hyderabad is the closest I come to civilisation, so that is the place I would buy it from. I am all open to buying an used one from one of the users here.

Please guide
Thanks

hi sqn ldr Bhatia,

are you married?

if you are - better check with your wife - after the experts on this forum guide you -

sometimes - the spouse can give better guidance (on what not to do)

@ Suri....
 Seems you have a long married life. My wifie's demand is a new system that she can hear anywhere in this house.....so thats the dictat. :ohyeah:

@ theironhorse...Thanks! I might take you up on your offer.....lets see when I end up in hyd next. Right now hitting the books for exam on 5th & 6th..in hyd. So maybe on 6th.....lets see.

Thanks. Presently am in a place called Bidar....was in Hyderabad for the last 2 years. Bidar is about 140 km from Hyd.

stilightly richer features than the 3100.. nutin much.. however some tweaking and settings can make it good... but still onkyo not much appreciated for music..

Thanks theironhorse. BTW....next time you are in Bidar, do drop in. There are a few more sites out here that I discovered from the air. Am sure you would love to see them too.

you are right ironhorse.
If the source is good, the onkyo cannot beat a stereo setup. Not by a long margin. The mids and highs have a clarity on stereo which no htib can do justice to. But regular mp3s, the difference is not so perciptible. it all depends on the source i guess. So vipul what is the source of your music content.

Source would be varied. From cassettes to CDs to DVDs to mp3s. Have a H.U.G.E collection, so guess it would be as per the mood.
