Norge pre and poweramp review

A good review. Norge amps are very good but sad to see niggles like input sound leakage and crackling sound from the potentiometers. Also, I do hope that speaker relays have been included in the circuit to prevent ‘thump’ on startup/ shutdown.

Way back in the eighties I owned a Norge 8080(as remembered) amp. This had a curved melamine finished enclosure with a VU meter. In 2008 I requested Mr Shyam Bajaj to check out and resurrect the amp. The gentleman that he is, hechecked it out at Hammersmith Industrial Area factory, but said that it would be a futile effort. However I purchased a Norge 40 w amp and Norge Phono stage. Other than the thump the amp served me well till replaced with a Marantz PM 6002 (really superb amp).

Just watched in YouTube about norge preand poweramp review.
Thanks for Sharing. It is a very transparent review done by this person. It is rare to see such honest review these days. I also have one of Norge concerto gold 1000 amplifier but these days I am using the other one (Cambridge audio Topaz Am10 paired with Wharfedale evo 4.1) .

The crackling sound is specific to his preamp. I have one of Norge integrated amps (concerto gold 1000) dec 2022 model and there is no issue of crackling sound in potentiometer. But yes there is leakage of sound in selector switch but that is conditional to say source 1 in operational stage connected to an input 1 and we switch to another input without shutting off the source 1. The balance misalignment is also specific to his particular model. I have never experienced that in my amplifier. From past many years there is speaker protection in the amps and there is no "thump" while switching ON. But all in all Norge is a budget brand providing great value for the price, not very high fi grade type.

A beautiful, well-constructed speaker with class-leading soundstage, imaging and bass that is fast, deep, and precise.
