Hello All,

Opened my Zidoo Z9X Pro for the first time 2 days back, watched around 4 movies on weekends and then switched back today to shield TV. Here are my impressions:
  • PQ is slightly better with Zidoo
  • User interface is slightly better by a thin margin as compared to kodi (installed on shield)
  • Didn't find any difference in sound quality and sound processing between the two.
  • Remote control in Zidoo is little clumsy with too many buttons.
  • Both players handle heavy files without any glitch.
  • But shield offers best of both the worlds - streaming as well as for files to play from your HDD. I can always easily come back to Netflix on shield easily. It's not the case with Zidoo and I don't believe in sideloading.
  • Given a chance I would always stick to shield TV and would upgrade the same in case a newer version arrived in the future.
  • Zidoo is best for those who has android tv but can't play HDD files with dolby & dts soundtracks.
Let's check if someone has different impression.

Very nicely described and will help others in choosing.

I disagree on points 1 & 3 by a big margin. PQ - especially 4k - HDR is significantly better with Zidoo - especially on challenging dark scenes and overall resolution, and sound quality especially surround channel usage is also significantly better, you get a more immersive feel. If one is not streaming, and can play local files zidoo is vastly superior imo. Yes Zidoo is useless for streaming - so in that case shield is definitely better.
Cheers,
Sid

Believe me, I am binge watching since Friday on both the devices, playing HDD on my media. What I’ll do is I’ll share the pic of the same scene 🎬 played by both the devices and let’s analyse it slightly or superiorly better.
Coming to SQ, I believe it’s more depends on the kind of source & output device you have.

May be for me what is slightly better is superior for you.

No need for sharing the pics boss, you are probably right and I am wrong. Enjoy. My equipment is also perhaps not upto the standard that you are experiencing - it is only entry level.
Cheers,
Sid

No no. Not at all. I don’t mean to say like that. Nobody is wrong or right here. Sometimes some things are based on what kind of analysis one’s eyes & ears make. Full respect to your views.

Are you using a projector or TV? IMO the display medium used also plays a huge role with PQ. May be the zidoo output for your display medium fairs well over the shield. Surrounds does feel thin with shield. I have done A/B tests against PS4 and Bluray player

My display is LG OLED 65” which supports HDR with DV

I am using a Sony projector hence I stated earlier that it may be inferior to OP's display.
