My recently acquired setup NAD 326EE + PSB Image B6 behaving a bit lower in bass department than my expectation. When I connected PSB B6 to Onkyo 3300 "stereo mode" I was getting far better punchy bass than connected it to NAD. Ofcourse NAD too give punchy bass buy slightly inferior to Onkyo atleast for my ears.

Moreover I find music is too loud when connected to NAD than Onkyo 3300.

Any suggestion to improve the performance?

SVK, When did you buy the system. Has the system burnt properly. Also check the placement of speakers and also check the connection, the spk may be out of phase.

I bought this system on last saturday, Amp used around 15 hours and speaker 50 hours. No issue with speaker placement as I connect Onkyo at same position.

Kindly wait for few weeks, the system will improve a lot after burn in. Keep the speakers atleast 1 feet from the rear wall and 1.5 feet from the side walls. BTW whats your source? cables and interconnect.

regards

Source is Pioneer 220 DV and cables 14Gg. But this is the same one is used for other receiver as well, so ideally this shouldn't make difference.

Can I assume that you are using the same DV220 for the Onkyo also. In stereo mode, is the sub working? If so that may be the reason for the additional bass in the Onkyo.

Cheers

Yes I am using DV220 as source for Onkyo as well.

In Onkyo I am using Speaker B mode and in this mode sub is disconnected. I am getting really crisp bass from this mode.

hi svkndv,

I once heard the Onkyo AVR (125wpc) and Craftel's Integrated Amp(100wpc) side by side on a A-B comparison. Source was a Marantz CDP, and the AVR was just nothing when compared to the Stereo amp.

So allow some more time for the amp and speakers to burn-in and also try with a better source like Marantz or NAD CDP for comparison.

I think u prefer a bassy setup for music listening and made a blind purchase on the NAD.....that should be the reason for the "relative" disappointment u are suffering. The golden rule kicks in again : "Audition the stuff before purchase,if there is an option"- not to say ,blind purchases have definitely worked out in many a cases as well.

@svkndv

I am the owner of NAD C 326BEE and PSB Image B6. For me the Bass is just tight and punchy, hard-hitting bass can say two-fisted sound. Also, AFAIK PSB don't need burn-in period to perform well.

Could u plz tell me the speaker cable brand? What is the placement of ur speaker?

AVR can't match Integrated Stereo AMP and u are saying that ur AVR is giving u much better bass?

NAD AMP's have bassy character.

I am using Supra classic 1.6 as speaker cable.

@svkndv
Nothing wrong in what you complaining. The reason could be the AVR is emphasizing the bass frequencies more as the bass frequencies matter more for movie watching.

I can say the NAD is doing its work properly maintaining its warm sound signature with good resolution. May be you're not comparing the other factors like sound stage, dynamics etc. More bass doesn't necessarily need to be better or value for money.

The speakers I have are said to have more prominent bass performance and pairing with NAD has good punchy bass with equal sparkling highs.
Its good listening to jazz, soft rock, rock, hard rock, metal etc but when I play disco, hip-hop, r&b it feels bass is lacking.

My friends Panasonic DVD 3.1 channel home theatre feels exceptionally good for hip-hop, disco etc. When I play Jazz, soft rock it sounds crap.

It all depends what you looking in it and your music preference.

Let me make it clear,

My complaint is only about punchy bass. Dynamics sound clarity etc. NAD is ahead of Onkyo3300 but not far ahead.

I did proper audition before buying these combination, but I have not done an audition with PSB B6 + Onkyo 3300. I don't think any of us will do an audition with AV receiver when we plan to have a stereo setup. Delivery of NAD was delayed by a week thats how I happen to connect PSB B6 to Onkyo 3300.

Onkyo stereo mode along with its own speakers deliver a crappy sound and boomy bass, only with PSB B6 its giving such a wonderful sound.

I am quite confident about the speaker placement, Cable brand is SHOWR. XP NW, again how does it matter speaker placement and cable quality when I am using the same cable for both amplifiers?

 ... looks as if you are liking the Onkyo-amplification better to the NAD's.

Well, we do have people here, who have upgraded from NAD to T-class amplification, and are very pleased with it.

Hahaha. Even my grandma gets headache listening to just a tv at average volume. For her a T-class amp instead of a proper amp definitely makes sense as her main hi-fi system:lol:

A T-class amp is definitely an option for those on a shoe string budget or those who are not so serious about hi-fi and are considering 10 year old used amps.
A T-class amp is not a replacement for proper stereo amp. I never saw anyone sell their brand new stereo amp and move to a T-class amp.
I don't think it will satisfy or make sense to downgrade for those who have any good marantz, CA or NAD amps.

"Little knowledge is dangerous" ............. so, no comments ....

Sorry man. Nothing wrong in what you suggested :D

Do i opened a can of worms?

Come out of fanboy syndrome. My doors are open for anyone from hifivision for a free audition.:licklips:

hahaha:lol:

When you are serious about your hi-fi hobby and have a decent budget you should definitely buy a decent amp and decent speakers to keep you happy for next 4 to 5 years. Or you feel bored quickly and upgrade bug bites you soon:D.
