on close comparison of 3400 and 3500 models on onkyo india website, I found that :
3500 doesn't mention audyssey feature which 3400 has.

May be present owners of 3400 can comment how useful this feature is?

is it same as violet HT has? which understand your environment and then adjust your reciever that what should be deliver by each speakers for complete experience of surround sound?

Does it really improve sound quality and surround sound effect in room? as violet HT does? and is really effective?
and if that is true shall i go for 3400 rather than 3500?

Most AVRs have this room correction technology. Yamaha uses its own proprietary YPAO while Denon, Marantz etc. uses Audessey. Pioneer uses MCACC. Audessey is available in different flavours like Audessey MultEQ, MultEQ XT. In entry level AVRs like Onkyo 3400 or Denon 1312 one need to manually set the equalizer settings. Higher models like Denon 1612 comes with auto setup mic where in you plug in a calibration mic and you place it at the listening position and the avr will do the calibration for you. After the calibration is complete you can remove the mic and the calculations are stored in the AVR. It is always good to have this feature as it makes setting up the AVR a breeze.

i am swinging between denon 1612 and onkyo 3400, can you help me understand pros and cons of each of these?

Thanks for help.

Regards

1612 is an avr and 3400 is acomplete package........
however 1612 and a decent pair of bookshelves are recomended as htib speakers are not that good......
so buy a 1612 or a onkyio equivalent avr and 2 bookshelves.......
buy centre, rear, sub later while good in budget........

Denon 1612 is much much better than Onkyo 3400 in terms of features and sound quality. With Denon 1612 you need a 5.1 speaker system where as Onkyo 3400 is a complete package. Which one to buy depends on your budget. Denon 1612 and Onkyo 3400 cost more or less the same. Some of the features of Denon 1612 not available in onkyo 3400 are active subwoofer support, usb music playback, audessey multeq with autosetup mic, upgradable to 7.1.

Hi nice(2+e),

3500 is a pretty decent system:clapping: for a small room (max 10 x 12), and as pointed out by baiju, is a complete HTiB by itself. But for larger rooms, the absence of the powered subwoofer would be felt. Additionally, not sure if this is a negative on the performance, but the system gets very hot after 20-30 minutes of use.

denon 1612 is a completly different genre....than the htib packages...its an avr.
about yamaha 196 avr and denon 1612..deono 1612 is anyday better......
but yes it adds cost for extra speakers....

^^ I bought the magnat 5001 speaker package for just 19K from amazon.de. It costs 42K here. I'm not sure whether it is now available at that price from amazon.de since they increased shipping charge. The sub is not powerful but the satellites are really good to give excellent surround effects. You can look for JBL SCS 140 speaker system. It is 15K. http://www.indiajbl.com/homeaudio.aspx#

Prosenjit,
And what is your opinion between 1612 and 1713?:)

Regards

presently there are very few materials available for 7.1 source. So I think you can better spend the money on good quality speakers rather than on unusable features.
Please tell me what are the speaker packages that you are looking for?

For upgrading Denon 1612 or 1312 to 7.1, you will need a stereo amp and a pair of speakers and connecting cables. The cost will depend on the components you use. Is there a dock connector in Denon 1612? It has a usb port and you can connect usb pendrives or ipod to play music files.

Can you tell me in which way 3500 is an upgrade over 3400? Just for an USB input its considered an upgrade? Or is there any difference in sound quality?

I remember few guys said onkyo 3500 gets hot in 30 mins.. How long can we keep it on? Do i need to turn it of after some time or can use it without break with tata sky? Thanks
